The "Ford" maneuver

Dump Pence (Agnew), bring a milquetoast Party loyalist (Ford) then resignation or impeachment of Trump (Nixon), Party loyalist takes office, full pardon of Trump (nixon) to save face for the Party.
Republicans lose election in 2020 but economy is a raging dumpster fire starting in 2021, republicans beat up Democrat administration for horrible economy for 4 years and push for reelection in 2024.

I promise you this plan is being tossed around. Republicans have been beating up Democrats for failed republican economic theories for decades.
Our challenge is to make them accountable for their own bullshit economics and show how we can fix it.

Elections go in cycles and recession is likely in 2020. The smart and sane people in the Republican party realize the Trump phenomenon is or will be toast, and the economy goes into recession in 2020. They are patient. They will wait until the 2024 Presidential campaign cycle gets underway in order to blame Democrats for the recession.

They may or may not go the route of the "Ford maneuver". That depends on Trump and/or Pence getting into water so hot that one or both of them have to resign. I don't see impeachment going the full distance. They will quit before facing a vote in the Senate if McConnell tells them that they won't survive a Senate vote.

Are trying to make the Democrats in a couple states, Michigan and Wisconsin (maybe more?) ineffectual by trying to pass lame duck bullshit. I believe these are a kind of a test to see if they can pull some of the same kind of shit nationally before going out of power in 2020.

Democrats in the House won't go along with that. The Republicans in the U.S. House and Senate have until Jan. 2, 2019 to pass lame duck B.S. legislation.

...Reagan's recession in 1981/2 was brutal. Yet by 1984, it was "Morning in America". Obama won re-election in 2012, and look what he inherited. Only if we had another Great Depression is this scenario likely, and I think that's unlikely. Unless, of course, the GOP openly sabotages the economy and the 2020 President. Which is, of course, a real possibility...
