... given that Trump did ultimately choose him? Hmmmmmmm?!? I think we all know the answer without hearing from Barr or Trump. There can be only one.
Corruption, pure and simple, on both sides. Asking a question one should not ask, seeking one and only one specific answer; giving the specific answer sought in order to secure the position. Dirty, dirty, dirty. By this alone Barr is revealed to be dishonorable and unworthy of the office (let's be honest, that's a criteria for the hire by Trump, but let's not give Barr a pass on that stain just because he's supposedly qualified or has been AG before).

(1,369 posts)No question, this will not be over soon, and you will not enjoy it... Mr. Barr...

(6,008 posts)... but they should ask him whether trump asked him anything about his thoughts on the investigation, and whether he would recuse himself.

(4,690 posts)It's hard to believe he's so stupid that he doesn't seem to know that working for trump is a very bad idea. He's only 68 so he doesn't even have the excuse of being senile.

(15,224 posts)It's not all about filling executive-level positions. Probably more about getting some key people in critical points where the whole f'in thing can be blown up (democracy/us.government).

If I had sweet Lindsay as someone representing me, I'd be constantly trying to clean up after him.
Nice old boy, however.
Not my type.

(2,594 posts)I'm not going to believe that an attorney (a real, experienced one at least) would have just told him, "Mr. President*, I won't recuse myself." I would just bet that he said something to the effect that "I'll do the 'right thing'." And, of course, Shitler being the stable genius* that he purports himself to be would simply infer from that response that, of course, he's going to recuse himself. I'm, fairly certain Sessions said something like that to him, but more likely Shitler never asked him that before he appointed him, and since the orange blowhard always assumes everyone else is going to do what Donald would do in every case, he got a shock when Sessions did that. People around Shitler are constantly fluffing him 24/7 and working around him simultaneously, but the ranks are thinning rapidly.

(2,437 posts)in the Iran-Contra scandal. All of the Republican criminals who committed treason against the United States were pardoned by Poppy Bush under the guidance of Barr. I wonder why Drumpf is choosing him?????????????

(43,172 posts)Barr probably would have sailed through with no issues of recusal (at least that I'm not aware of) if Trump had kept his mouth shut.
But by asking him directly about the Mueller campaign, it's possible this is evidence of obstruction on Trump's part, making him a witness, and that potentially does raise issues of possible recusal.
Trump may have shot himself in his own foot because he's a moron.

(37,648 posts)Sessions had to recuse himself because if he hadn't, he would have been by the Senate, because of his involvement with Russians when he was on the Trump campaign team.
Barr didn't work on the Trump campaign, did he? So he can honestly say he won't recuse himself, because there's nothing to recuse himself for.
I'd answer it by saying, "I have no reason to recuse myself, since I had no dealings with the Russians or your campaign or your team, so no, I wouldn't recuse myself. I'll make sure from here on out that there's no reason to recuse myself, so I can assure you, I will not be recusing myself."
Trump still doesn't understand why Sessions HAD to recuse himself. He hadn't foreseen it, just like Trump, Trump's team, Trump's lawyers...no one foresaw that Sessions would have to recuse himself.

(32,626 posts)Except that now Cheeto has made it a requirement for the job. So you can bet it was discussed privately before Barr got hired. Like the previous poster said, Cheeto has shot himself in the foot because he's an idiot. Barr can't be too smart either, leaving a good job at a top law firm ... for THIS?

(37,648 posts)that would be overseen by the AG. I think it's a normal question.
"As you know, the AG is the oversight of a V.I.P. investigation in the country. I need someone who will not recuse himself from that responsibility, or have any reason to recuse himself."
Normally, it's a big honor, and helps someone's career tremendously, to work in the cabinet or administration. But THIS administration at THIS time...I don't see why Barr would do it. Unless there's a bribe involved.

(13,036 posts)The host standing in for Joy Reid in AMJoy asked why such a guy with good record of being AG would want to step into this "house of horrors". Ms. Bertrand mentioned last year Barr had actually SOLICITED TO BE ON TRUMP'S LEGAL TEAM!! .
