(5,914 posts)They were the first Native American band to have a song reach #1 in the US and around the world. They had a couple of other lesser hits in this country, but were much more popular in Europe. (The Christmas ad was from France.)

Alcohol was not sold on the rez, but directly across from my house was a bar
that was packed with Indians every Friday and Saturday night.
They would play that Redbone song over and over as they drank in the parking
lot and banged on the hoods of their trucks. I heard that song hundreds of
times that year.
