Trumps new AG pick thinks Hillary, not Trump, should be investigatedWilliam Barr, Trump's choice for attorney general, has already called for Clinton to be investigated and downplayed any concerns about Trump. That's probably why he was chosen.
<snip>
Although Barr might not have as tawdry or shady a past as acting Attorney General Matt Whitaker, hes just as committed to baselessly accusing Hillary Clinton of crimes while blithely dismissing any of Trumps wrongdoings.
Last year, the New York Times asked ten former attorneys general if theyd be willing to comment on whether the Justice Department should open an investigation into the Uranium One deal that occurred when Clinton was secretary of state.
All of them declined to respond, save for Barr, who said he saw more basis for investigating that deal than in looking into the Trump campaigns collusion with Russia. - ShareBlue
Enough with the pundits normalizing this shill. He's an individual #1 loyalist.

(12,344 posts)1. I am learning not to worry after this week.
Whitaker was supposed to take out Mueller, but he's still chugging along. I have this fantasy in my mind of the new AG's first day of orientiation. Mueller comes to his office and shows him the pee tape, a photo of Cohen in Prague carrying $50,000 in cash, and an audio of Trump saying, "Uncle Pooty promised me a big hotel if I just do one little favor for him."

(60,010 posts)2. Trump first wanted his attorney general pick William Barr for another job: Defense lawyer
In late spring 2017, President Trump was having a hard time finding a topflight lawyer to spearhead his defense in the sprawling Russian investigation conducted by the new special counsel Robert Mueller. Some of the most prominent litigators in Washington had turned aside overtures to represent the president in the case, expressing concerns that he would not listen to their advice anyway.
Around that time, sources tell Yahoo News, White House officials reached out to a man they thought would be an ideal candidate: William P. Barr, the attorney general under President George H.W. Bush. An outspoken conservative, Barr had gotten on Trumps radar screen that spring after he had written a newspaper op-ed vigorously defending the presidents decision to fire FBI Director James Comey. At one point, Barr was ushered into a brief White House meeting with Trump, who asked him if he was interested in the job, according to a source who was present for the meeting. Barr demurred. He had other obligations, he said. He would have to think about it.

Barr insisted a return to traditional values would rid the country of crime, sexually transmitted diseases and more, and believes that government should subsidize religious education, particularly mentioning the funding of Catholic schools which he says will curb homosexuality and non-marital sex.

Through legislative action, litigation, or judicial interpretation, secularists continually seek to eliminate laws that reflect traditional moral norms. Decades ago, we saw the barriers to divorce eliminated. Twenty years ago, we saw the laws against abortion swept away. Today, we are seeing the constant chipping away at laws designed to restrain sexual immorality, obscenity, or euthanasia.

As recently as 2017, Barr spoke about LGBT rights as just one more form of the breakdown of morality as special interest groups were demanding equal rights on the Georgetown University campus, a Catholic-based school.
