I think some people are reading far too much into the fact that Manafort helped pick Pence as VP

Last edited Mon Dec 10, 2018, 01:42 PM - Edit history (1)

I’m not necessarily saying it’s impossible that there couldn’t be something more to that fact, but you have to consider that Manafort was the campaign manager for Trump at the time candidates traditionally vet and pick their VP nominees.

So while people might rush to conclusions that Manafort helped push Pence for reasons relating to Russia, right now there’s nothing that specifically indicates that to be the case.

Currently it looks like Pence’s most significant exposure in the Trussia probe is that he might know more about Flynn’s activities than he let on.

That’s definitely not a good thing for him, but I don’t necessarily think that alone pulls him into Trump’s inner circle of Russia conspirators. Whether that alone places him in any realistic legal jeopardy without something more substantial coming to light is somewhat doubtful.

I’m not trying to be a downer here, nor am I trying to excuse a rat bastard the likes of Pence, but I do think we need to keep certain expectations realistic.

I know people are rooting for a Trump-Pence “two-fer” after January 3rd that leads to both being simultaneously impeached and removed and we get President Pelosi. And as much as I would love that, just like a notion of a redo election for Hillary, that sadly just will never happen.

so many people on the transition team which he was in charge of were in their roles were committing treason.

Christy was in charge for a long time. Pence was his replacement, but it was a bit of a "figure head" position really. Jared was really running things. Which gets us back to the "huge idiot" part.

I don’t know if it alone creates the political will for impeachment.

The Pence pick was most likely tactical. The Russian involvement came later.

Ig he lied to investigators about Flynn, there might be perjury. I don't see Russian connections though.

Knowing that Pence was such a diehard dominionist that he would overlook everything sleazy and unethical done by Trump and gang just to promote the evangelical cause and push them into influence in WH.

Some of the posts on DU indicating that Pence is on the verge of going down are based largely on assumed facts not yet in evidence. (To be sure, any number of pundits and "experts" do the same thing). But if there is one thing that has become clear over the past year, it is that when Mueller acts, it typically is based in large part, if not entirely, on specific evidence that was not previously known to the public.

Pence Replaces Christie as Transition Team Chair
Now heading the Trump transition team, Gov. Chris Christie (R-NJ) had warned Trump not to give a high-level administration position to retired Gen. Michael Flynn, who is not on any of the team’s long lists for government appointments. While Christie is chairing a meeting of Trump’s transition team, Flynn and another retired general, Keith Kellogg, enter the room. Neither is a member of the team. When Christie asks if he can help them, Ivanka Trump, who is a member of the team’s executive council, says she invited them to attend.

Praising Flynn’s “amazing loyalty to my father,” Ivanka asks Flynn what job he wants. Flynn expresses interest in becoming secretary of state or secretary of defense.

Hours later, Mike Pence replaces Christie as head of the transition team.

Trump’s Team Develops Cover-Up for Comey’s Ouster

On the Monday after his weekend at Bedminster, Trump meets with senior White House officials, including White House counsel Don McGahn and Vice President Mike Pence. According to later reporting by The New York Times, Trump announces his decision to fire James Comey and reads aloud from the multipage termination letter that he had drafted with Stephen Miller — described by sources to The Times and The Washington Post as a “screed” and a “rant.” McGahn counsels Trump to delay dismissing Comey and begins an effort to stop the letter, or at least pare it back.

He brought that recommendation to the president. The attorney general concurred with that recommendation.”

At the time Trump had no idea who Pence was and was leaning toward Christie.

That changed overnight after the dinner meeting Manafort arraigned.

Pence being VP was totally the work of Manafort.

Note this was VP to a POTUS who showed big promise of being removed from office.

No doubt Manafort was involved in helping maneuver Trump into accepting Pence.
