Who will be TIME's 2018 Person of the Year? Check out the shortlist

Today Show:

t’s that time of year.

TIME has narrowed down its shortlist of finalists for the magazine’s of 2018 Person of the Year.

The title is not necessarily an honor or award, but representative of the influence the person — or idea — has had on the news within the past year, for better or worse.

Who will be TIME's Person of the Year this year?Who will be TIME's Person of the Year this year?

TIME has made the designation every year since 1927. Last year, the magazine's editors selected The Silence Breakers, the individuals who spoke up and sparked a national reckoning over the prevalence of sexual harassment and assault.

We marched locally and I am saddened that this has faded in media with all the other crap like Trump being needed to be addressed.

he could find the space. Only the people who read the accompanying article would know that the selection is no compliment by a long shot (which lets out Rump and his drooling, rabid fans).

If it happens, I'm sure TIME will also mention that Adolph Hitler was also "Man of the Year" in his day.

It's about who made the biggest impact on the news. Hitler and Stalin have both "won" it.

Many of the other names are relevant because of trump.

Like him or not (and I guessing most here don’t like him), he has had a huge impact on a variety of issues over the last year. If it wasn’t for trump, I don’t think there would have been the Blue Wave that we saw during the elections.

They just need to make sure that the photo of him is bad enough so he won’t want to hang it up in every single one of his stupid buildings.

"Person of the Year" doesn't mean "Best Person of the Year." It's who most influenced what's going on in the news for good or bad. Don is the King of Bad.

71-year-old eyes and dirty glasses are a dangerous combination.

I sure hope they select Mueller. List his military honors and courage in combat along with his record prosecuting thugs and terrorists. Compare his past patriotism and service to that of the con artist Trump. Oh, and point out he is a republican. Might educate some of the brain dead population and tweak Trump enough to make him blow his top.

BTS was the winner - and they don't make the short list.

Second place was Planet Earth- also not on the short list.

Third was Thai Cave Dwellers - also not on the short list.

MBS was next - also not the short list.

Those 4 account for 30 percent of the votes on the "Time Magazine Person of the Year Reader's Poll" and none are on the short list.

What was the point of that poll?
