Democrats should immediately impeach Trump upon convining the next congress.

Make the Republican Senators vote yes or no to convict and let them run in 2020 on that vote. The mid terms show supporting Trump is a losing position and the Democrats will regain the Senate and most likely the presidency. Alternatively, start the process closer to the 2020 election...say Christmas of 2019. But do it, just based on Trump's ceaseless lying.

Key to picking the best candidate for President is to realize Trump won't be on the ticket in 2020. A Democratic win won't be assured as a moderate could come to the front of the possible Republican candidates.

Just saying.

if for no other reason that to prevent states like NY from opening Pandora's Box by moving to indict a sitting president.

The law is unclear on if this is possible and legal. If NY does move forward and:

- gets slapped down by the Supreme Court OR
- is successful

each of these will have far reaching implications to not only the current administration but future one's as well.

Imagine down the road, a solid red state makes a move to disrupt the a solidly blue administration with pestering state indictments.

Additionally, a slapped down state attorney general ould also give Congress carte blanche to act (or more likely not act) for partisan reasons against an administration deserving of impeachment.

BTW, please do not think for a moment that the blue side is any less partisan than the red side...many, if not most, politicians are partisan and will be loathe to move against their own party even if warranted.

And no need to Leeroy Jenkins* impeachment, either.

Impeachment wasn't designed for political gamesmanship. It was abused for that purpose with Clinton, but there's no need to emulate those merry band of Republicans.

The one time the impeachment process was warranted--and those engaging in it realized the seriousness of the process--was Watergate. And you could see it on the faces of the representatives voting to approve the articles of impeachment. It was not business as usual. They were asking to potentially remove a president for high crimes and misdemeanors.

It is a serious, extreme measure designed for serious, extreme situations. And this is a serious, extreme situation for which impeachment was intended. It's not designed as a roll call register.

Wait for Mueller to issue his report and then, and only then, make the move. Not because we want to win in 2020, but because the legitimacy of the country and its electoral process free from interference demands it.
