Rachel Maddow Just Became Mike Pence's Worst Nightmare

Rachel Maddow Just Became Mike Pence’s Worst Nightmare

Rachel Maddow took apart Vice President Mike Pence’s lies about Mike Flynn and showed why the VP is facing his own Russia problems.

Maddow said:

The person whose role in all of this is perhaps most implausible and therefore most troubling is actually the vice president, Mr. Roboto, Mike Pence. While over half the officials in the administration were overtly talking about Flynn’s discussions about sanctions, Mike Pence, the head of the transition said he knew nothing about that, never heard any of that, no idea. When another controversy about Flynn arose and Flynn had to retroactively register as a foreign agent who had been secretly working for Turkey during the presidential campaign, Flynn’s lawyers said they notified the transition multiple times, including in writing about Flynn’s ties to that foreign government as well. Again, Mike Pence was the head of the transition, which was the entity which was notified about Flynn’s foreign ties. But Mike Pence said he had no idea about that. Never heard about it. You are running the transition and it turns out the national security adviser, the incoming national security adviser had secret undisclosed foreign ties that he is under federal investigation for? That doesn’t rise to your level? What else were you busy with?

Similarly, Mike Pence publicly denied that there had ever been any role in the transition for Mike Flynn’s son, Mike Jr. After one of many instances in which Mike Jr. Achieved press attention and some notoriety for controversial public statements. Mike Pence was running the transition. He said overtly that Mike Flynn’s son never had any role in the transition, but in fact he had. Some of the stuff he later got in trouble for were messages he sent from his official transition e-mail address. Vice President Pence trying to preserve some sort of deniable fiction about that was just inexplicable and embarrassing at the time, but it’s ended up being just one of a whole bunch of things that the vice president has said specifically about Mike Flynn that turned out to be utterly implausible or just flat-out false.

Rachel Maddow then closed by asking the big question. Why did Mike Pence tell so many lies about the role of Mike Flynn?

Maddow has been locked in on Pence since the scandal broke. Mike Pence’s strategy appears to be to fly below the radar, wait for Trump to crash and burn, and then become president. The problem is that Mike Pence has a whole of questions to answer on the Russia scandal himself. It strains common sense that the vice president was as clueless as he pretends to be.

Pence was always the Republican Party’s back up plan if corrupt Trump went down in a ball of flames. The problem is that beneath Pence’s facade of evangelical Christianity is enough corruption to take him down with Trump.

2. Pence has always been a shady person, he has been lucky enough to fly under the radar. Until now.

During a failed 1990 congressional run, Indiana Gov. Mike Pence used nearly $13,000 in campaign funds for a slew of personal purposes, including paying down his mortgage and covering golf tournament fees.

According to 1990 campaign finance records, Pence used $12,867 from his campaign account for personal expenses. That's the equivalent of about $23,700 in 2016.

The payouts included seven $992 mortgage payments and seven of his wife's $222 car payments. More cash went to buy household groceries, pay off Pence's credit cards and even cover the costs of participating in golf tournaments.

She works hard to pull all of the stories together in a good narrative and gives it to the viewers. But, the actual work is done by others. But, without Rachel many people wouldn't get the information that is out there.

Rachel has acknowledged her staff and show runners many times on her show and during interviews. But even without her staff, Rachel herself is brilliant and worthy of the praise she gets.

It's hard for Democrats because almost all of cable news follows the corporate right wing narratives.

Given the opportunity, I have no doubt that Pence would pardon Trump.

Kudos to Rachel for drawing attention to Pence. He’s been flying under the radar for too long. There’s a reason Manafort personally selected Pence for Vice President and Rachel made an excellent start of figuring out the real story.

9. Mike Pence was hand-picked by Manafort to be VP.

Cheetolini was going to select Chris Christie in all likelihood. Manafort and Roger Stone were in business together back in the '80s and tRump knew and worked with them at that time and they've been close since. Manafort was the one who introduced tRump to Pence. Given Manafort's ties to Russia and the association Stone had with Assange, it's not credible in the least that Pence had no knowledge of Flynn's activities on behalf of Turkey and, more importantly, Russia. He's been lying about this since the jump. Manafort (and McConnell???) made the recommendation of Pence, and I would assume it's because he knew Pence personally or knew of him through McConnel? or some other Russia-favored source. He was selected for a reason. We just need to learn what the reason was other than him being bland enough to appease some of the rethug voters repelled by tRump, and just dull enough to sit in a room and look like a store mannequin.

Last night I was telling a Dem friend that Pence will not be POTUS due to lying about Flynn and he was picked by Manafort (that's a big red flag). Also his brother(s) does business in Russia (another Russian connection?).

The story of Pence is one that greatly intrigues me. There has to be a back story of why he was chosen V.P.

20. It's finally Mike Pence's time in the barrel - Palmer Report on Rachel's great show
Wed Dec 12, 2018, 12:29 PM
Dec 2018
For those paying close attention all along, it’s been clear that Mike Pence’s time in the proverbial Trump-Russia barrel was coming eventually. From the lies he got caught in, to the transition team evidence, to his surreal connections to nearly every Russian operative in the Trump campaign, Pence was clearly in on it – and was clearly going to be nailed in the end. Fascinatingly, it’s happening sooner than one might have expected.

We all had a good laugh at Mike Pence’s expense yesterday when he sat there like a wax dummy while Donald Trump sparred with Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer. So it wasn’t surprising that Rachel Maddow opened her show last night with jokes about Pence.
<snip>

Sure enough, Maddow pivoted to Robert Mueller’s Michael Flynn sentencing memo, which spelled out that the Trump transition team was involved in Flynn’s Russia crimes – and that by default, Flynn had ratted out those crimes. She then reminded everyone that Mueller long ago obtained all of the emails from the transition team, and that Pence was the head of the transition team.

Then came the other long-ago details about Congressman Elijah Cummings having notified Mike Pence early in the transition period, in writing, that Flynn was dirty – and that Pence went on to cover for Flynn on national television anyway. And of course there was the part about Pence having added crazy lunatic Michael Flynn Jr to the transition team, presumably as a favor to Michael Flynn, and then publicly lied about having done so. - Palmer Report

Pence's time in the barrel.

I hate Russian assets.
