https://www.rawstory.com/2018/12/whats-behind-mike-pences-stony-visage-trump-may-plan-dump-nikki-haley/I think they are wrong, or at least off the mark.
My conspiracy theory is Trump gives Pence a pardon in exchange for his resignation. Make him a scapegoat of sorts. Pence will take the rap for a lot of the russia conspiracy as head of the transition team. It won't work legally, but Trump is more interested in perception. And remember, Pence has no state level crimes he can be charged with that we are aware of.
Tiny will then nominate haley as his replacement. She is ambitious enough to go along with it. She will then replace him either as the 2020 candidate or as potus when he is forced out (with a pardon).
Be afraid. We have NO way to stop this. We can't stop a vp nomination being confirmed. We can't stop pardon's.
The only fly in this ointment is trumps ego. He won't easily nominate a woman as VP, especially since she can easily overshadow him. So that's two psych strikes against it. Plus, he isn't that smart that he could swallow pride and accept it.

(1,004 posts)Section 2 of the 25th Amendment: Whenever there is a vacancy in the office of the Vice President, the President shall nominate a Vice President who shall take office upon confirmation by a majority vote of both Houses of Congress.
Of course, he can get around this by simply not having Pence resign. Pence would serve out his term while Haley runs on the 2020 ticket.

(17,862 posts)if the House holds up Haley's nomination. That very well might be playing into their hands.
I know the converse isn't true (no matter how qualified and moderate the candidate is, the Republicans stopping a nomination has no price to be paid).
I did hear part of a sickening stroke her interview this morning with Haley while I was getting ready for work. The Today show or something.

(14,605 posts)They could filet her from top to bottom.
If they have to vote on confirmation, they have to hold hearings. She has to testify. Under oath. About everything since before she was governor.
Could be enough cover there to freeze her out.

(1,004 posts)It's interesting to note that the only time this section of the 25th Amendment was invoked, for Ford replacing Agnew, it took six weeks between nomination and the confirmation votes. And that after Ford had been approved by majority Democrats. So the process isn't quick, even when everyone is on the same page. I can't imagine what it would be like now.

(14,605 posts)Thought it was just the senate. But would the dems deny her? On what grounds? My guess is she would get enough votes in the house unless the dems decide to keep the seat vacant, which would be a firestorm in itself.
Payback for mcconnel holding a scotus seat vacant perhaps, but a firestorm nonetheless. And since she is a woman, it would open us up to attacks from faux-fem's.

(10,819 posts)the stink of Trumpski following her around? If she really wants a role in Republican politics, the decision to accept would be the Kiss of Death. And why would Trumpski put a woman in as VP, someone who might outshine him? There were loads of stories that the Trumpster resented all the favorable press that Haley was getting in her UN position. He's going to bring her closer in where the comparisons will be even more stark?
Nah! Don't see this happening. This is more like someone's wishful dreaming, a Republican still hoping to save the Party from ruin & damnation.

(14,605 posts)Even more so than most other pol's by the sound of it. That's why she took a post in the administration to begin with. She was pretty chummy with trump per reporter observations.
And becoming VP to an impeachable president is a pretty good path to becoming potus. Once potus, always potus.
Ford did pretty well with it, and he wasn't even a money grubbing egotist like haley.
So why wouldn't she go for it? If she got in early enough, she could have a respectable run at 2020. We would lose the gender gap (or at least a big chunk of it), and a lot of never trumper's would go home.
She would be a dangerous opponent fr any dem candidate. Don't dismiss it. Plan for it, just like any other contingency.
