Will Trump really shut it down if he doesn't get wall money? Will Trump cave? Will he be stubborn enough to go through with a shutdown?
How will the Repugs handle such a shutdown? (McConnell?) as the Repugs will get the blame for Trump's ego.
Will the Dems call his bluff and let him shut it down?
Will the Dems (Nancy & Chuck) cave and give him the money?
Should the Dems give him the money for the wall? All of it ($5 billion)? Some of it (a lesser amount)? None of it?
How long would or could such a shut-down last? Happening around Christmas/New Years - do they really want to do this? Does Trump really want to do this?
Is this just an exercise for testing how the new relationship (Dems having the House dealing with the WH) will work going forward over the next 2 years?
Do Nancy & Chuck just want to teach Trump a lesson in bipartisan compromise? (i.e., show him if both sides give a little - all can win)
Really - I look at this as a watershed moment for the next 2 years of business in D.C.. Will it be business as usual - no progress - more of the same partisan fighting? Or this confrontation yesterday be a 'teachable moment' in how the next 2 years should or will work?

Let him shut down the Government and own that shutdown. If he gets sucessfully hung with it, it will not last long.

Trumps on the record demanding funding for his wall or he will shut down the government.

No, he will capitulate and paint himself the hero for avoiding a shutdown.

(25,219 posts)If he doesn't get the money how does he justify winning this? I can't see him taking a loss of face by calling for a shutdown and not getting anything out of it.

(3,335 posts)Employees eventually get paid; shutdowns rarely last longer than a week. Essential employees get paid on time, so there's no stoppage for them. Non-essential employees get paid once the stoppage is over, usually the following pay period. Bills eventually get paid; with interest if paid late. So what's the point other than a pissing contest as Nancy described so aptly.
