What it's like at the prison in Otisville where Michael Cohen may go

(CNN) — Michael Cohen said in court Wednesday that he had been living in a "personal and mental incarceration" under President Donald Trump and that his prison sentence would, ironically, help him get back his freedom.

That's particularly true if he goes to a certain minimum-security prison not far from the city.

In federal court on Wednesday, US District Judge William Pauley agreed to recommend that Cohen serve his 36-month prison sentence at FCI Otisville, about 70 miles northwest of New York City.

FCI Otisville has sometimes been viewed as a preferable prison option for inmates convicted of white-collar crimes. In 2009, Forbes named it one of "America's 10 cushiest prisons."

Despite the judge's recommendation, the decision as to where Cohen will spend time is ultimately up to the Bureau of Prisons, which has sole responsibility for determining where offenders spend their prison sentences.

incentive to improve prison conditions. If guys like Cohen can't on the country club lockup anymore, they might favor doing something about it.

Clearly the prosecutor, in that case, didn’t like, at all, Cosby calling him an “asshole.” 🥴

You may not understand federal court procedures. Defendants who are convicted of non-violent crimes are often given a period to organize their lives before reporting to prison. There is nothing special about this case. The judge was appointed by Bill Clinton.

won’t be hard, or harsh, time. He does need to worry about state charges that will, surely, be filed. 🤔 A stint in a state correctional facility, any state facility, is not like time in a federal correctional facility. And it sure seems like this incoming NY State Attorney General is going to be investigating the Trump (crime) family. 👿☠️

9. I am enraged that White Collar Crime is somehow considered to be less of a crime than others.

Some white collar criminals may not have murdered their victims but they sure may have ruined their lives. And, they broke the law and did so knowingly. I'm not advocating for a cruel place of incarceration but then none of our prisons should be and yet non-violent offenders get sent there all the time. Why do we have "cushy" prisons for white collar criminals? Oh, yea, money talks.

I love this--what magazine is known for rating prisons? It must be Forbes.
