'What a Despicable Sham'

'What a Despicable Sham': MSNBC's Chris Hayes Denounces Five House Democrats as 'Cowards' for Helping GOP to Block Yemen Vote

snip//

While a vote in the U.S. Senate to push forward a War Powers Resolution on Wednesday resulted in applause from peace advocates and critics of U.S. involvement in the Saudi-led assault on Yemen, five Democrats in the U.S. House stirred outrage as they helped Republicans in the chamber pass a rule—attached to massive Farm Bill legislation—that effectively killed the hopes of voting on its version of the resolution for the remainder of the congressional session.

"History will not look kindly on those who abdicated their constitutional duty to debate and vote our nation's wars in the name of petty politics and shoring up future campaign contributions from the arms industry and pro-Saudi lobbyists."
—Paul Kawika Martin, Peace Action

The procedural vote in the Senate, said resolution co-sponsor Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), will help send a message to the world that the chamber will soon end its support for "this brutal, horrific war in Yemen led by an undemocratic, despotic regime."

But in the House, say critics, the five Democrats—Reps. Jim Costa (Calif.), Al Lawson (Fla.), Collin Peterson (Minn.), Dutch Rupperberger (Md.), and David Scott (Ga.)—sent the exact opposite message by backing the GOP-led effort to kill the resolution.

MSNBC's Chris Hayes was just one of the journalists and other experts following the story who expressed outrage about the House vote.

This is just a minor setback as long as we keep the support in the Senate, come January the House can undo what was just done.

I guess I could have said only 5 Democrats voted against debating our involvement in Yemen.

I guess it was easier for Chris Hayes to show photos of 5 Democrats than show photos of 200 Republicans.

Chris Hayes and all the tv "news" talking heads will regularly, routinely, remorselessly blame Democrats for every failure of Republicans and success of Republican agenda.

Why blame 5 Democrats when the Republicans have the majority? Why not blame 5 Republicans for not standing up to their rotten party agenda?

The "news" blames Democrats no matter what.

What are the reasons for continuing our support for the war in Yemen? I ask that question to everyone who voted regardless of party.

the Repubs to consistently do the wrong things. Same old, same old. Nothing to see here.

On the other hand, we EXPECT our Democratic representatives will do the right things, as we elected them to. And when they don't, yes, they should have to account for it.

The vote was 206 - 203, yet the alleged journalist blames 5 Democrats, only, for blocking the provision in the Farm Bill.

Why shouldn't Republicans share the blame?

I don't care about changing a headline or criticising hayes as much as being incredibly disappointed in the vote. These millions of Yemeni citizens can't wait a month for the Dems to take the House. Some thousands will die from malnourishment and hunger. This is a humintarian disaster and our tax dollars are being being used to facilitate their deaths.
