For decades now, we have heard Republicans claim they are the holier-than-thou party comprised of true Christians, uncompromising patriots, and honest and respectable politicians intelligent and dedicated enough to lead a nation for the betterment of the citizenry, and the nation as a whole.
Well, the truth of the matter is that we had a president who was exactly what the GOP claimed to have wanted all along. That was President Barack Obama a Christian who practiced the tenets of his faith, a man respected and revered the world over, an exceptionally intelligent leader whose dedication to his role as POTUS proved his love of country at every turn.
With President Barack Obama in office, even his family seemed to be right out of central casting. Michele was a beautiful and intelligent First Lady who performed her role as FLOTUS with grace and style, and tireless dedication to causes that were as uplifting as they were inspiring. Sashas and Malias conduct left no doubt that they were raised to be selfless and humble, without a hint of having been spoiled by their parents position or wealth.
Barack Obama was the poster child for everything the GOP has continually insisted they wanted in the White House a man of integrity, intelligence, strength, and true leadership ; a man untouched by political or personal scandal; a man who represented the country with unwavering dignity, and never debased nor abused the office he held.
By electing and enabling Donald Trump, the GOP have proven beyond all doubt that who they really wanted in the Oval Office was the exact opposite of what theyve long claimed to want. What they have given us is a man so obviously lacking in every virtue theyve pretended to embrace, and every qualification theyve long held was a prerequisite to holding the highest office in the land.
What the Republicans have foisted on the nation is an incompetent liar, a thief, a racist and a bigot, whose only interest is glorifying himself. He has used his position as pOTUS to further his own business interests, and has turned the presidency into a self-serving means of increasing his personal wealth.
There has not been a single day since his inauguration that Trump has not been steeped in scandal, and demonstrated his incompetence. He is not welcome anywhere, and world leaders literally laugh at his remarkable stupidity.
Trump possesses no Christian values, or any morals whatsoever. He is lazy beyond measure, and his ignorance is only surpassed by his arrogance. His First Lady is a former nude model who is as clueless as her husband, and his children are grifters who are as steeped in corruption as he is.
He surrounds himself with incompetent yes-men, at-the-ready to assist him in destroying everything we stand for, and every principle we hold dear along with our environment, our system of education, our judicial system, and the agencies that protect us from harm.
We can only wonder what happened to those virtues the Republicans long touted as necessary in a president, like honesty, intelligence, and moral rectitude because their current pResident has demonstrated none of the above.
And in addition, he is a traitor.
Ive no doubt our next president will be a Democrat. It will be interesting to watch the Republicans cite our next POTUS for being lacking in any regard because there is nothing any future holder of that office could do that would come close to Trumps stupidity, depravity, and criminality.
We have now seen the lowest-of-the-low elected by the GOP to our nations highest position and we now know just how indifferent they are to the very things theyve long claimed to have wanted in a president. Their hypocrisy is on display for all to see and only the Walking Brain-Dead are too dumb to recognize it.

(33,328 posts)It would be so nice to go 8 years without someone in the White House getting indicted. That was just a dream we all shared, wasn't it? Such a thing is impossible in the real world, surely.
I've forgotten -- how many scandals makes a weekend? Converting to these new time units is tough.

(7,947 posts)You are so right. When people were eulogizing HW Bush as the last gentleman, I always pointed out, "Actually, there was another gentleman in the White House very recently. His name was Barack Obama."

(7,809 posts)Carter was everything they claimed to want: pious, former military, honest, hardworking, son of the South - everything their blessed little hearts could hope for. And they threw him aside for a divorced Hollywood insider, former union head, hadn't seen the inside of a church in decades liar.
As we used to say: the "Moral Majority" is neither. They would vote for whoever they were told to vote for.
