(21,529 posts)Progressive and Conservatives both want people to "earn" a decent life, the difference being that Progressive want you to actually have the means (education, living wage, assistance when you need it) to do so. whereas for Conservatives that "decent life" is the carrot on a stick you are forever trying to reach as you pull the cart full of billionaires smoking cigars behind you.

(124 posts)It's the desire to account for injustice that drives the progressive movement?
Perhaps also to account for Justice and to reward those who practice it.
Why else would those who promote Justice associate with like minded individuals while shunning the unjust? I would say that such an organization sounds like a political party.

(20,148 posts)Under the progressive system, rich people ARE STILL RICH! A little less rich? Okay, I'll give them that. But when Heidi Cruz complained that she and Ted couldn't afford a second home, when the 2 of them have a net worth over $4 Million and pull in at least $500K a year, what she meant was they couldn't afford the second home they WANT. There's something pretty obscene about that when a FIRST home has become unaffordable for most Americans. Under the Progressive system, everybody should be able to get what they NEED, while the wealthy may have to set their sights a tiny bit lower in terms of satisfying their WANTS. Progressives are willing to give up a little in the interest of everyone getting what they NEED. Conservatives don't want to give up a red cent to help people not like themselves.

(146,262 posts)There will also be way fewer people living below the poverty line in a progressive system.
The meaning of "rich" changes from time to time. Being too poor to subsist never changes, though.

(20,148 posts)and ultimately, the wealthy benefit from that healthy economy as well. That's what I just don't get about the whole greed thing. Henry Ford, as imperfect as he was, knew what he was doing when he paid his workers enough that they could buy HIS CARS. Why doesn't the good Christian Walton family want to pay its workers more so they can spend more AT WALMART! BTW, the Walton family still controls 51% of ALL Walmart stock, so before people say "what about the shareholders?" well in the case of Walmart, they ARE the controlling shareholders.
