Five takeaways from the court decision striking down ObamaCare

A federal judge in Texas cast new uncertainty on the fate of ObamaCare when he issued a ruling striking down the entire Affordable Care Act (ACA).

U.S. District Court Judge Reed O'Connor's decision Friday sent shockwaves through the country and health-care industry after he ruled in favor of a challenge from 20 GOP-led states and struck down the law.

As the political world scrambles to figure out the implications, here are five takeaways from the decision:

ObamaCare is still in effect and people can still sign up

Despite the high-profile ruling, nothing has changed in the short term involving coverage under the law.

The Affordable Care Act is still in effect and providing people with health insurance. In fact, the deadline to sign up for coverage next year is early Sunday morning, at 3 a.m., so there are still a few hours to sign up.

The ruling will not go into effect until there are appeals to higher courts, where many expect it to be reversed. But there is the risk of confusion from all of the headlines about the law being struck down.

...was a tax, then the individual mandate was constitutional. Now, there is no longer a penalty/tax for not maintaining health insurance, so, I would assume that means there is effectively no individual mandate, either. So, it sounds like the problem solved itself, in which case, what the hell was that judge even ruling on?

Think about it - that SOB in the White House WANTS Americans to suffer - and there's a whole bunch of elected officials, as well as a rabid group of followers that support him!
Is this REALLY the kind of country our Founding Fathers wanted - and is it really the kind of message that those supposed "followers of Jesus" want to be presenting?

(There are times that it is just so very hard to keep sane...........)

anxiety for those who are broke and already sick...this is what they live for! The GOP is a group of sadistic and cruel monsters who want to bankrupt and kill Americans as long as they keep power and get richer. People who are ill are vulnerable to stress and it physically harms people, especially over a period of time. I am tired of fighting these bastard for years. Every time I think I can finally breath a sigh of relief that the ACA is safe they yank the rug out from under me again.

Republicans get millions in bribes, er, campaign contributions from insurance and pharmaceutical companies. They have to do what they say.

wanted a government to "promote the general welfare" and "insure domestic tranquility" so I think they would have been all in for the ACA if they had known how much better--and more costly--health care would be in our time.

because the policy I had through my pension expired. If they take ObamaCare away I will be in a very bad situation.

I'm not so sure IQ45 and his band of merry men (Republicans, with McTurtle as Robin Hood) much care............

Here's hoping that the new House will be able to work some sense into the government and its duties to its citizens.
