The new poll data of CEOs where 2/3s think the economy is imminently heading into a recession is a huge shift.

I know people think voters are dumb, and a portion are, but for the economy, historically they'e correctly assigned blame and given credit. When the economy sputters in 2019, in retrospect, voters will realize 2017 was all Obama.

Good news: if enthusiasm rivals 2018, the Democratic should be able to surpass Obama's record total from 2008. Democrats just got 61 million votes in a mid-term, so it's easily achievable.

People who are poorer than church mice vote straight R ticket. I don't understand it. The last time I tried talking to strangers about it, I got this Obama birther rant. No, they're not going to just fold their tents and go gently into that good night and it would be a mistake to treat them as a joke because it won't take that many to cause real problems, to even cause violence.

Unless the Left remains vigilant and treats every election seriously, they will be back in power again.

It's one area many of us on the left don't see clearly. While doing so in an extremely sloppy manner, he has been extremely successful at some things that are very important to some and other Republicans not only failed in these areas, they often did the opposite.

echoing whatever Trump says or tweets about it. This is RARELY challenged. Even by Democrats on the air, who frustratingly often answer with something like, "Yes, but..."

If the economy starts slowing down over the next 6-9 months and enters a recession next year (as both economists and CEOs expect), I think he'll lose a decent amount off that 38%. If he drops to closer to 30%, you can expect to see some Republicans in Congress regenerate their spines.

Democrats challenge his actions on a regular basis. It's regularly posted on this board.

I think the economy will have to take a pretty solid dive to get him to 30%. He has gutted the EPA and other agencies. He has limited revenue streams into the federal government. He has generated even more distrust in government. He is blowing it up from the inside. To many of us aren't aware of how many conservative feel this is the only way to get it done. They don't like the person but like the actions. It must be torched before it can be built again. Bannon and his ilk are big on that.

I've rarely seen it - that's why Pelosi last week was such a big story.

And, challenging somebody on Twitter, which I see all the time, is different than when you're in a panel discussion on TV and agreeing with the Trump talking head that the economy is good.

And, gutting the EPA and other agencies isn't going to immediately hurt the economy, but will have drastic long-term effects. The economy is still growing, job growth has been decent and unemployment is very low thanks to unprecedented borrowing and spending at the federal level. (And, also because unemployment was trending down for years under Obama) Once the sugar high of the borrowing/tax cuts wears off, even a quarter or two of negative growth will really hurt the Trump approvals.

Favorability ratings. Not in connection to them hurting the economy themselves.

These items are huge for many conservatives.

A quarter or two of negative growth would be devastating to him. It wouldn't happen in the next two quarters at a minimum. That leaves it in the middle of an election, if it did happen. No echo chambers during an election.

Both Bushes, Carter, Truman and Nixon all had lows in the 20's. Only Nixon was a crook. Trump is a worse crook than Nixon by a long shot. And doesn't have any of the virtues of the others ... at least one of whom (Truman) history has judged extremely kindly. So what the heck is keeping Trump as high as he is?
