At this rate, the Stock Market for December is likely to the the worst since December 1931.
Heard that on M$NBComcast.
Well done Don the Con aka the rat hirer.

(33,328 posts)Mitch and Ryan will try to make sure MAGAts can't get social security or medicare; Repugs won their court case against Obamacare; trade wars killed jobs so they can't afford ammo to hunt food. Any MAGAts dying from achieving their stated goals should be considered fair game by surviving MAGAts.
Should be some kind of 'insane irony' tag that could be placed here.

Personally, I like the dangly things.
Oh, and since I'm not hep with the current lingo, I had to research emoji's/etc. These are fun:

Still, it's fun to see the history of how writers have tried to deal with innuendo and subtleties.

(7,143 posts)Both the Dow Jones Industrial Average and the S&P 500 are on pace for their worst December performance since 1931, when stocks were battered during the Great Depression. The Dow and S&P 500 are down 7.8 percent and 7.6 percent this month, respectively.
December is typically a very positive month for markets. The Dow has only fallen during 25 Decembers going back to 1931.

Trump took office. But the market went up nearly 300% when Obama was pres.

(25,816 posts)Everyone here seemed to think it was a terrible idea, and it was and is.
But so many here tie their retirement funds to the market. Why? If it's a bad
idea for Social Security, why is it a good idea for your 401k?
I have zero stock, no portfolio. As I have mentioned here before, 90% of all
stock is owned by the top 10%. Most people do not own stocks.
It's a rich man's poker game. A gamble.
If you have a retirement plan that relies on the market, I believe you can
restructure the plan.

(25,848 posts)Some years it's more, some years it's less. Some years the market declines. But overall, it goes up. Another point to keep in mind is that the market sets new highs somewhat regularly. It never sets new lows. Never. Well, not since 1932.
Tying Social Security to the stock market was a terrible idea because of the uncertainty it would introduce in SS, and also that it would be an incredible and undeserved windfall for Wall Street and brokers everywhere.
Putting all of your money under the mattress, in a savings account, or even in bonds is a very bad idea because there is not only no growth, but you won't even keep up with inflation.
Diversification is the key.

(25,848 posts)It closed today at 24,100. That does not wipe out all of his stock market gains.
And we are years overdue for a correction. Which is what this is at this point.
Yeah, I wouldn't be all that surprised if the market fell back a few thousand more points, but keep in mind that it won't be setting a new low. For that it would have to peel back all the way to 41.22, and that's not going to happen.

(7,142 posts)There has never been a worse month for the Dow and S&P since 1931. Also this is after Trump gave corporations big tax breaks, allowed them to bring back offshore money for pennies on the dollar and deregulated. The market should be booming.
