Pollster Mallory Newall on Wednesday said that most Americans believe the economy is rigged in favor of wealthy elites.
"Most people agree that the American economy is rigged to advantage the rich and powerful," Newall, research director at Ipsos Public Affairs, told Hill.TV's Joe Concha on "What America's Thinking."
"I think it does go back to the recession and underlying worry," she continued. "The recession is sort of what gave rise to so much of this populism that we're seeing today, and I think that there's just this underlying sense of 'the system isn't working for me,' and feeling constantly unsettled about that."
An Ipsos survey released in August found that 64 percent of Americans believe that the U.S. economy is rigged the advantage the rich and the powerful.

(7,537 posts)Voices such as Elizabeth Warren...no this is not a call for her to run for President. While the campaigns are conducted, it is important that the message that America does not belong to the one percent is broadcast far and wide...this will carry the Dems into the Senate and the Presidency.

(11,443 posts)Mostly republicans. Just about every republican voter I know, including those with low incomes, defend every benefit and tax break given to the fat cats when their party runs Washington. Even after years of proof that republican supply side economics is a disaster for most middle income and poor people, these Fox/Limbaugh brainwashed idiots still fall all over themselves supporting it.

(5,914 posts)When you are young, you hear this and refuse to believe it. The world is your oyster! The sky's the limit! It doesn't matter who you are or where you come from. This is the land of opportunity! Make it happen! When you are young, you are excited about "being all that you can be".
As you get older, you start to realize that you are always trying to play fair in a game that is rigged against you, by people that have a lot more than you have. The "rules" that you learned growing up don't apply to those people, but they certainly apply to you. That list of people that the "rules" don't apply to is getting smaller and smaller.

(4,192 posts)So are government services, banking terms, airport security pre-screened lines and highway express lanes. The rich are very delicate people who need more help than others just to get by. We should all feel sorry for them because of the heavy tax burden they carry. Some may have to cancel this month's vacation...tragic.
