BTW, it's almost 11 PM, she's in the Capitol, and she looks exhausted. Our Democrats work their butts off, unlike the republicans who are probably all on their way home for the year.

(54,325 posts)In the States, politicians are usually addressed and referred to by the highest position they have held, no matter what they are now.
Bill Clinton and Barack Obama are still addressed as "Mr. President," Al Franken is still addressed as "Senator Franken," Howard Dean is still addressed as "Governor Dean." Since Pelosi has been speaker once already, she gets to be addressed and referred to as "Speaker Pelosi." ("Once and future Speaker Pelosi" seems a bit cumbersome anyway.)
Perverse as it may seem, two years from now, unless he is "promoted" to ambassador to Pellucidar, or some such place, Paul Ryan will be addressed as something he most definitely will NOT be, i.e. "Speaker Ryan."
