Republican slams Trump’s refusal to sign funding bill: ‘We weren’t sent to Washington to burn the place down’

BRENDAN SKWIRE 20 DEC 2018 AT 14:00 ET

Texas Republican congressman Will Hurd slammed President Donald Trump’s refusal to sign the continuing resolution funding the government because it didn’t include funding for his border wall, saying that despite frequent GOP rhetoric to the contrary, telling MSNBC on Thursday he wasn’t sent to Washington “to burn the place down.”

Asked by host Ali Velshi to offer his opinion on “where things stand,” Hurd laid down his burden.

“Where things stand is that the American people actually sent us up to Washington, D.C., to get things done, not burn the place down, so we should be able to fund the government,” Hurd said. He added that the House should vote anyway to see if they had enough vote to override a veto. But when he turned to the president’s insistence on a wall, the congressman let loose.

“This fallacy that a wall equals border security,” he said. “I spent a decade as an undercover officer in the CIA chasing bad guys. We are monitoring or keeping track of the wrong metric.”

I finally let him have it the other day. It just came tumbling out. Told him "you wanted to 'burn it down.' Well you did. And you stone cold fucked me, my children, and this whole country. I hope you're happy. Enjoy your fucking Medicare dad."

Now I just swing between periods of guilt and periods of wanting to give him another dose of it. He had the nerve to take offense at the profanity. Told him "fuck that noise, this is the new normal. All standards are burned to the ground. Only low-energy losers are polite. Isn't it fucking great? Fuck fuck fuck! Yay, I'm just like the President! I'm so manly and bigly articulate!"

I wasn't even going to discuss politics until he shoehorned some derogatory crap about HRC into a conversation that wasn't relevant at all. I figured what the hell I'll just go trump on him. Sigh

Older rethugs seem to feel that none of this is their fault but still support trumpleforeskin no matter what he has done. After all, black and brown people getting free shit blah blah blah...Worried about you saying "fuck" but not worried about stumpy bragging about sexual assault. My mom, in her 80's has received easily over a million dollars of medicare support (without which she would have died 15 years ago) for her three extensive bouts with cancer...and still supports the rethugs. Ugh, just done with the bullshit.

Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. We don't get to pick our parents, and part of being an adult is taking charge of our own sense of ethics and morality. And if that means you realize your parents aren't up to it, it doesn't mean being a doormat when they're obnoxious about it.
