Whiny Donny won the primaries and this was it. And, even they were not sure whom they despised and feared more: Trump or Cruz.
But now some brave senators, who are not up for re-election in 2020, will have to follow Heidi Heitkamp: can they look themselves in the mirror?
If enough of them will be willing to remove him from office, and take the consequences in 20200 or 2024, the country will owe them. Yes, not everyone owns shares of companies, but their employers, their banks, their insurance companies, their landlords, the whole country is dependent of the stock market. Otherwise, why did so many lose their jobs after the crash of 2008?
And it is not just the stock market. Is pulling out of Syria - just like that - one of the IOU of Putin?

(19,945 posts)building, I think the enormity of what has happened is more likely to wash over the great unwashed of the GOP....not the Trumpers, but the silent majority of Republican voters who watch Fox, and consequently do not get what happened.

(9 posts)Pulling out troops in Afghanistan in Syria is good. I also think its good that the GOP is blowing up over this. I just dont think we should explicitly support indefinite war just to oppose Trump (big difference between enjoying schaedenfraude and selling our worldview).
The best bet is to beat Trump and Pence in 2020.

(47,425 posts)The old Pottery Barn - you break it, you own it?
I think that we had some coalition to remove Assad but then Trump's buddy Putin came along with the specific goal of keeping Assad in place and everything changed. For generations Russia wanted access to warm water - hence the taking of Crimea and now they have the ports of Syria thanks to Trump's generosity. Or paying down debt.
After all, we never really left Europe and Japan after WWII, at least this has been the policy of all administrations.
In the beginning of the year when the stock market rocketed, Trump, of course, took credit. Now he is quiet. Will be nice to show this clip and a graph of what is now before the elections. The Great Recession started with the collapse of brokerage houses. In January 2009 700,000 people lost their jobs. We cannot separate the impact on the economy. And.. if this is what it will take for the rich Republicans to turn against him; to convince their puppets in Congress to go against him. I will take it.
And... welcome to DU!

WE have a duty to not abandon our demands that OUR government serve the people.
No excuses. The Republicans in congress should be run out of DC on a rail.

(47,425 posts)They accepted him as the legally elected president and, of course, got their "tax reform" and RW judges. But enough is enough.
Yes, they have sworn to the Constitution which describes the various branches of government and their interactions. Trump is now running the country like a deranged monarch.

(58,785 posts)He is not the cause or beginning, and if he disappeared tonight we would still be in grave danger. They'll still be there, and, btw, have you forgotten they currently hold the senate and have Pence as a backup to continue appointing their corrupt political agents to our courts? Their corruption is far deeper and far older than you realize, and the danger they have become to our democracy is clearly far larger.
Have you not noticed their growing attempts in various states and many dozens of local contests to overset the vote to keep power?
In 2000, the conservatives on SCOTUS set aside Florida's legally mandated procedures to investigate and count the vote and instead effectively appointed a Republican president, and in retrospect that turned out to be a turning point for how the Republican white male supremacy Party would keep power.
