(37,648 posts)It's Captain Bligh in the one with Marlon Brando, who plays Christian. But it's Captain Queeg in the one w/Bogart. ???
I did like the African Queen, too. That was one of Bogie's best films, IMO. There were others too, tho.

(33,320 posts)Captain Bligh is a character in Mutiny on the Bounty.
Captain Queeg is a character in The Caine Mutiny.

(37,648 posts)Both about a cruel, unstable captain....a mutiny...etc. I see.
Guess I need to watch it. There's a free streaming app on Roku with nothing but Bogart movies. I'll see if it's there. Thanks.

(37,648 posts)I never saw Caine, so didn't know. I read about it just now in Wikipedia and saw it's fiction. I'll have to watch the movie. Can't believe I never saw it.

(3,764 posts)in high school, it was good but the next book in the series Men Against the Sea was truly impressive
Men Against the Sea follows the journey of Lieutenant William Bligh and the eighteen men set adrift in an open boat by the mutineers of the Bounty. The story is told from the perspective of Thomas Ledward, the Bounty's acting surgeon, who went into the ship's launch with Bligh. It begins after the main events described in the novel and then moves into a flashback, finishing at the starting point.

After five months on Tahiti, masters mate Fletcher Christian led a mutiny on board the Bounty on 28 April 1789. Eighteen mutineers set Bligh and 18 of his loyal crewmen adrift in a small boat. Bligh, however, was a skilled navigator and managed to sail them nearly 4000 miles to Timor, in the Dutch East Indies. From there, he brought his men back to England to report the mutiny, arriving 14 March 1790.

OTOH, I couldn't finish Pitcairn's Island, the story of what happened to Fletcher Christian and the other mutaniers.

(37,648 posts)I like documentaries, so I saw one (or more) documentaries on the Mutiny on the Bounty saga. Never read the book. Saw the movie, as I said, which lead to my watching documentaries about it.
Thanks. Those were harsh times, and a harsh way to live. But a gripping story, that to me, did not end up well for the ones I saw as the good guys.

(53,061 posts)As you will see Queeg is redeemed in the film in a way that Trump cannot be but any further hints will ruin a very subtle story with an astonishing ending.

(3,764 posts)Men Against the Sea was better than Mutiny on the Bounty. It was an incredible feat of skill and luck that Bligh and the men who went with him were able to travel 4000 miles across the Pacific in an open boat. I'm sure Christian thought he wouldn't survive.
