I'm surprised at how little discussion there is on the merits, or lack thereof, for a wall. This is wiggs Dec 2018 #6

which would require 9 (D) defections (not happening).... They could decide to try to do something new as a budget reconciliation package and then send that to the House.

if it's 4 months in and no progress, he might consider it. However, I'm no parliamentarian, can this be done except at the beginning of a new session? I think I remember that this can only be done then, but not sure. Hope so otherwise McConnell could cave if he thinks drumpf or his master PUtin will rat him out someway and expoe his treason.

If so, I think Turtle will blow up the filibuster today. Honestly, what's he got to lose? There will probably be little to no legislation passed in the next two years. The Senate will be difficult to flip in 2020. And if they do flip it, that means a dem president and a dem Congress which sets up the R's for midterm gains in 2022.

a vanity expense...an ignorant, mean campaign promise meant to rally racists only...a pissing contest...an impractical waste of money...a bad idea that won't measurably improve border security if something actually gets built...a middle finger to an ally...

But what gets reported and what even most dems say about it has to do with the pissing contest, the horserace. Just like for elections every two years, the media would rather talk about the drama as opposed to the substance.

Dems could have addressed the issue more effectively, IMO...helping make sure the public understands the stupidity and importance of wasting 5 billion dollars so that goprs and wavering dems feel pressure to do the right thing rather than massage the ego of a potus who is not much longer in the WH.
