Partial Government Shutdown On Track For Midnight Amid Border Wall Impasse

WASHINGTON ― With President Donald Trump’s vow to oppose any funding bill that doesn’t include money for a border wall, parts of the government were on track to shut down at midnight Friday after the House and Senate adjourned without reaching any compromise.

There was chatter around Capitol Hill that Vice President Mike Pence was close to brokering a last-minute deal with Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.), but nothing materialized. That ensured a shutdown of nine federal departments and several agencies affecting hundreds of thousands of workers.

House members could return from recess at noon Saturday. But the House doesn’t intend to vote on anything else until there is action in the Senate. House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) told members he didn’t expect any House votes on Saturday. He also said he’d give lawmakers “ample” warning before there was a vote.

“We’re totally prepared for a very long shutdown,” Trump threatened Friday, blaming the lapse in appropriations on the unwillingness of Democrats to pass $5.7 billion in funding for his long-promised wall along the U.S.-Mexico border. “This is our only chance that we’ll ever have ... to get great border security.”

Has there ever been a shutdown before when the party that was in the Whitehouse also controlled Congress?

because USDA (and FDA that gets funding from the USDA's Agricultural appropriations, NOT HHS's appropriation) is in furlough mode at the moment.

shouldn't work for him either.

I know that this is far fetched (him having his workers, e.g., kitchen staff, etc.), but he truly needs to understand why shutdowns hurt, and that throwing a temper tantrum isn't the way to govern. Idiot.
