He had an opportunity to keep the government open and operating, with proper payment for its employees. The House and Senate both would have passed bills to continue government operations. Trump promised to veto those bills unless they contained funding for his bogus border wall.
Clearly, he has failed in his first responsibility as President: to oversee the operation of the federal government as its chief executive.
There's your "High crime or misdemeanor," Congress. Today, instead of bickering over "Trump's Wall," the House of Representatives should hold an impeachment vote and unanimously impeach Donald J. Trump. Then, they should hand-deliver that Impeachment to the Senate, which body, after being presented evidence of Donald J. Trump's failure to properly do his job, should vote unanimously to convict and remove him from office forthwith.
Immediately thereafter, a Continuing Resolution to fund federal government should be passed by both houses and delivered to the new President, Mike Pence, immediately upon his taking the oath of office. Pence should sign The CR on the spot, while still holding the Bible on which he took the oath.
Problem solved!

(113 posts)between wall funding & govt shut down results in one mor part of our govt that is non-operating.
Considering my list above, isn't this heading to a system so weakened that one day we no longer recognize our govt, because it no longer exists.
At what point are we officially finished?
How close are we?
Look at the markets. That is frightening.
The bit of hope comes on Jan 3rd.
If the govt is re-opened by then.
Thus I ask, how long can he actually keep the govt shut down?

(146,257 posts)Congress could pass a CR, however, that Trump would veto, and then override that veto. That is another alternative.
I'd rather see the impeachment option happen, though, even though Pence is not someone I want as President. Impeachment would demonstrate real resolve in Congress to make things work again.

(113 posts)But at this point I think we'd be ok with anything.
We really need to see our new Dem majority grab hold of as much of the reigns as possible.
I believe they absolutely intend to & am just grateful that the midterm election broke Trump's power grab.
They have A Lot to do to fix what he's trashed.
Question:
What happens if he keeps the shut down going thru Jan 3rd when the Dem majority is to be seated?
I ask because I have no idea how that would work.

(146,257 posts)a true bear market, I'm certain.
Trump is bluffing. Congress should call his bluff by passing a CR without the Wall money. If he vetoes it, an override should occur.
Still, I'd rather they just impeached him and tossed him out of the White House on his ear.

(28,270 posts)Trump is going to bring so much financial pain to the GOP big money backers that they will finally tell their bought for politicians to vote for impeachment in the end I think.
There will be hell to pay before then though for our country. Elections have severe consequences at times.
Maybe after all the devastation Trump will do, America will think twice before electing a reality show con man to the presidency again.
It makes me want to weep thinking how great a president Hillary would have been. Especially compared to the evil bastard that is soiling our white house now.

(8,755 posts)Problem is the Trump hold outs.
Maybe a problem is leadership of both parties.
Worry about how difficult Trump will be to dislodge even with impeachment and conviction.
Trump cannot keep key positions filled even with crummy individuals now.
