Coons: 'No path' toward Trump getting $5 billion for wall

Delaware Sen. Chris Coons (D) on Sunday said there is "no path" for President Trump to secure $5 billion in funding for a wall along the southern border.

“There is frankly no path toward his getting $5 billion in American taxpayer money to meet his campaign promise of a 'big, beautiful wall' with Mexico," Coons said on CBS's "Face the Nation," referring to Trump's campaign rhetoric.

“There is a path toward responsibly appropriating about $1.3 billion for border security," he added.

With lawmakers unable to come to an agreement over Trump's demand for $5 billion to fund a wall along the border with Mexico, a partial government shutdown went into effect early Saturday.
