Nobody. Mnuchin's golfing in Baja California. He's not capable of telling Trump anything, anyhow.
There's no Chief of Staff. No Defense Secretary. The Acting Attorney General has no clue. Trump's running unfettered by any reasonable advice right now. He's operation on his own addled instincts and complete lack of knowledge.
Doesn't look good. Not good at all. He has surrounded himself with toadies and when someone leaves, he just leaves the position open or moves some Deputy up to avoid having nobody who wants the jobs.
Trump is about to implode on himself. Stand well back!

(6,373 posts)People have bee saying Trump is about to collapse since June 2015. Hasn't happened yet. I still think the earliest he leaves the Oval Office is January 2021.

(146,254 posts)The squirrels gnaw a hole in its side, and then go inside and get the pumpkin seeds. How they know there are edible seeds in there, I don't know. If you open the front door slowly, a squirrel will stick its head out of the hole and look at you warily. Once all the seeds are gone, the squirrels abandon the pumpkin and it slowly collapses on itself, finally going flat and drying out.
The squirrels are in Trump's head right now, feasting on the nuggets that pass for his brains. Soon, they'll leave and his head will collapse in on itself and shrivel up. Can't wait!

If he makes it to the end of the week, without some sort of cardiovascular event, I'll be surprised.

(7,394 posts)over riding ( in this case adult in the room) figure who monitors the agreed upon plan and outlines the consequences that will follow if the plan is not followed. Some modifications are always included when it becomes necessary, even if it has to be authorized by family members. With Trump we have none of that. His plan is his own at this point and he forces out anyone that tries to override him or control his erratic behavior. It is now at the open ended stage where there is no one to challenge or temper his downward spiral. His "Better Angels" are Fox news nut jobs.
At this point the 25th is out of the question, unless something entirely devastating happens. Impeachment? There may be a small chance of Congress doing its job, but at this point who really believes that?
Mueller may be able to thread the needle and deliver the goods that will cause the downfall. But even that is not certain.
Same with VA and SDNY.
Those things will all take time.
Poeple really do need to look at their financial situations. Excess debt. Access to healthcare. I am not generally an alarmist and have had some faith that the "adults in the room" would steer us around the reefs. I no longer believe that. 2019 may be a year that will define us.
I happen to believe that we will whether the storm as we have always done. But to believe that the storm will not hit is naive.

"Trump's new chief of staff Mick Mulvaney says he talked with president about calling him 'terrible human being'."
