Bernstein: More Republicans beginning to believe Trump 'unfit to be the president'
By Michael Burke - 12/23/18 04:14 PM EST

Watergate reporter Carl Bernstein said Sunday that Republicans are coming to a "much greater consensus" that President Trump is unfit to be president following the resignation of Defense Secretary James Mattis.

Bernstein, appearing on CNN's "Reliable Sources," said there is concern that Trump is "unfit on psychological grounds" as well as unfit "because of his contempt for the law" and because of his "conduct of foreign policy."

“What the Mattis letter has done in a monumental way is to push Republicans into making some real judgments. They’re talking to each other, there is coming to be a much greater consensus that he is unfit to be the President of the United States," Bernstein said.

Mattis resigned last week from his position as Secretary of Defense following Trump's decision to remove U.S. troops from Syria. Mattis wrote in his resignation letter that Trump deserves "a Secretary of Defense whose views are better aligned with yours."

He also expressed concern over Trump's views on traditional U.S. alliances.

"While the US remains the indispensable nation in the free world, we cannot protect our interests or serve that role effectively without maintaining strong alliances and showing respect to those allies," Mattis wrote in the letter.

It's the RW propaganda machine that bruised Trump's ego over the wall. Trump's bruised ego caused the government shutdown.

But the power brokers for the Republicans will sit on their hands as long as they can manipulate their dumb president - like Rush Limbaugh and Ann Coulter just did.

When it starts to hurt the power brokers for the Republicans in their wallet or put what is in their wallet at risk ... then, they'll do something about it.

The stock market diving and Mattis move us closer to that.

Trumpski was unfit the day he rolled down that escalator, proclaiming Mexican immigrants all rapists and murderers and/or questioned a judge's judicial impartiality because of his ethnic background. He was unfit when he mocked a disabled journalist. He was unfit on the campaign trail when he accused Hillary Clinton of every crime in the Universe, as well as dishonoring a Gold Star family. He was unfit when he said, 'he could grab 'em by the pussy.' And what about, 'I could shoot someone on 5th Avenue and not lose a vote?'

If Republicans are even half-serious then they are attempting to rewrite history and disguise their ugly hand in it. They ran with a totally unfit, incompetent, nasty candidate/nominee because he served as a conduit to dark money, big money, money they just couldn't refuse.

Republicans supported Trump because they were and are unfit to hold office themselves. Compromised, complicit. They sold the country out willingly, with their eyes wide open brimming with $$ signs.

Let's not be suckered, again. Or buy into: we never saw it coming excuses.

They saw it coming. And then they wrapped their arms around it pretending not to smell that whiff of sulphur.

Never forget, never forgive.

They need to be putting pressure on the Rethugs! They need to say "Trump is unfit to be President!" They need to be repeating the following:
Secretary of Defense resigns in protest (first in history)
Pulling in out of Syria is making the country less safe among other things
Pulling out of Syria is against what every military expert says
Stock Market is in a dive
Chief of staff, attorney general, etc.
17 investigations
Traitor Trump's handling of Saudi Arabia

This needs to be repeated continually! And then they need to call on their Republican colleagues to do what's right for the country!!!
PUT PRESSURE ON THE RETHUGS!!!!

Most of us realized that trump was not fit for anything even before he announced his candidacy, any doubts we may have had he affirmed during the candidacy, and for republicans to "suddenly" realize that the guy is not fit for anything????

Please...I have said it before, the republicans knew it, but he was the perfect decoy to keep the country and the world looking the other way while the went along with their horrible agenda. What the crooks from the republican party did not realize is how bad, how horrible this guy was...I believe most of us knew it, but then again nobody expects too much from the brain of the republicans, not even those "economic geniuses" like Paul Ryan, so now the turd has shown to be detrimental to the health of the republican party, without realizing it, the turd has forced the mask off the republicans in congress and senate, they too have been compromised and are now trying to hide in hopes they will not get caught...

Please, don't continue to think people are fools, republicans knew how bad he was, they just didn't expect to be stained so badly by him, but when you throw shit on a running fan, you are going to get splattered, and republicans, you threw the biggest piece of crap into a ceiling fan while you were under it, now eat your price you crooks.

- Acting Attorney General
- Acting Chief of Staff
- [Jan. 1st] Acting Secretary of Defense
- His tweeted decision to remove troops from Syria, without any discussion with his own Defense Secretary or American allies.

It all adds up - Bernstein is probably right!

since we've known this since 1998 or so. Now that they've discovered Trump is a slow-minded egomaniac, it'll take another two years for them to act upon it. This is why they could never become Democrats. We can suss-out a fucking loser in a New York minute.
