On this Christmas Eve, Im grateful for a God who loves us, the blessing to live in the greatest country on earth, and for every man and woman in our armed forces spending this Christmas away from their families so the rest of us can safely be with ours.

Can you put in a word for the Feds and federal contractors whose paychecks you took away for Christmas?
#GoebbelsInPearls messes up holiday greeting, neglecting furloughed workers and children in cages.

You know whos not thankful? Children in cages in TX, 800,000 federal employees not getting a paycheck, our environment, homeless Vets, protections for transgender schoolchildren, the elderly that need meals on wheels, everyone with a 401k, and democracy.

(1,812 posts)Trump was going to make America great again???????
Is Sarah saying , mission accomplished????
Trump can be impeached?????
And does she really really believe that God loves a country that seperates families, puts children in cages, lets children be killed by guns???
And has Donald Trump as POTUS?

(37,648 posts)The checks for the fed employees may be withheld until the shutdown is over, but I think they still get paid in a shutdown.
But there are plenty of people who won't be getting paid. All the small businesses that cater to federal places that have tourists over the holidays, like national parks. Those businesses may close during the shutdown.

(12,640 posts)The ones stuck in "mission critical" jobs will probably get delayed paychecks for as long as the shut-down lasts, but the furloughed personnel - the ones told to stay home - are put on Leave Without Pay for the duration - they can't even take leave if they have it on the books or are currently on leave, nor do they get holiday pay. They also have to come in four hours to shut down without pay ether today or Wednesday depending on if they were originally given Monday off.
Federal contractors are actually probably still going to be paid - at least through March for long term contracts - as their money was already allocated for the next quarter.
So, probably a good 2/3 of full-time Federal employees will be hurting come January 10, when the short paychecks start going out just in time to meet the incoming utility bills and holiday purchase bills...
It's not going to be a happy time for most.
