House Dems should start with...?

What do you think should be the first and second priorities? Please vote for first, and list 2nd in the title of your reply.

Passing laws will be challenging without senate control and with veto power in trumps hands.
But Dems will use House power to highlight key issues, push for change, embarrass GOP, and perhaps work out deals where possible.

The Trump shutdown may well be motivated by desire to control the narrative after Dems take House. Whatever agenda Nancy Pelosi had, Trump has pushed the Wall to the front of the media line, because ignoring the shutdown won’t be possible in opening weeks of new term. A weak tool, but maybe trump is using it as the only means he has to put Dems in a reactive rather than proactive position.

The death of the 8 year old in Border Patrol custody on Christmas Eve makes clear that reuniting separated families have to be at the top of the priority list, in my opinion. Maybe others think differently?

We don’t have time to take anything one at a time. The Republicans don’t!

Your list is good though.

Because it will take at least 2 years to make a dent on that, but I have to go with ending the shutdown. That affects too many people

According to one of the people who helped them, some of the children had not eaten or drank water for days. These children have to be priority number one. This KKKirstjen Nielson has to be subpoenaed and asked under oath how many children have died in ICE custody. She has to be held responsible for the atrocities being done in her department.

10. Infrastructure is a great idea. I should have included that.

A green infrastructure program could combine climate change advantages, economic stimulus, and wealth inequality (fund with tax on rich and/or on fossil fuel profits) in one popular bill. Trumps’s fossil fuel policies have been a tragic step backward.

The list only goes to show how much IQ45 and the Pugs have really screwed us in just a very short time.

It is time to get busy and fight back, starting with the House of Representatives. While they are extra busy tending to correcting all of these problems we must be very pro-active and making plans to GOTV for the critical 2020 elections. We need to keep the "House" plus add the Senate and give our newly elected Democratic President the forces he needs to right the ship!

12. Deal to end shutdown? If Trump is an ultimatum to fund wall, the only deal would be capitulation.

.

Fuck that. The longer the shutdown, the more the DOW plunges.

Internal GOP donor pressures will affect a change.

18. 2nd: anti-corruption measures (even if they inevitably die in the senate)

the way i see it, the only thing Democrats can effectively accomplish in the house without senate support is a suite of targeted and preferably televised investigations advancing/reinforcing the Mueller report. hence my first choice. first and foremost, the American people must learn the truth of events of the last 3 years.

the second priority can be an endless litany of anti-corruption bills put forth for the senate to kill or the president to veto. this is win-win for Democrats since if Republicans block the legislation they're swearing allegiance to corruption which will become a campaign issue but if they pass it, their corrupt asses have to live with it. this perspective is absolutely necessary for this society to recover from the Trump damage within the next 20 years.
