Republican strategist Rick Santorum asserted on Wednesday that former President Barack Obama had strangled the economy, which grew seven of the eight years he was in office.
During an interview on CNNs New Day, Santorum sympathized with President Donald Trumps frustration at the Federal Reserve for raising interest rates.
I know its frustrating to him to see the Fed prop up the Obama economy for eight years at zero interest rates as Obamas tax and regulatory policies strangled the American economy, Santorum complained. And as soon as Trump comes in and un-strangles the economy, well the Fed comes in and tries to tighten it.
It looks like under Obama, the Fed was all for propping up this big socialist gambit that Obama was pushing, the former GOP senator continued. And now that we have a strong market-based president, it seems like the Fed is doing everything they can to constrain growth.

(22,097 posts)evidence did he present that Obama's economy was pushing a socialist economy? Funny he seems to have forgotten that when Obama got into office, the Bush economy was collapsing all around us. Idiot...why do people even listen to him?

(6,039 posts)I'm sure he will argue that the economy didn't start to improve until Jan, 20, 2017.
I wonder when he will say Obama caused 9/11. I'm sure it will be soon. Dumbass.

(9,350 posts)The Republicans have been willing to abandon anyone and any policy since Donald Trump walked into the White House. Jeff Sessions, one of the staunchest Republicans finds himself on the wrong side of Donald Trump and Republicans abandon him. Republican policies find themselves on the wrong side of Donald Trump and Republicans abandon their supposedly long held ideas. Donald Trump must have something on them.
Other than Donald Trump having something on the Republican Party it could be that Rick Santorum and other Republicans cannot take the fact that a black male Democrat saved the economy and now a white male Republican is tanking the economy. Due to the Republican Party's worldview it was supposed to be the other way around. The black man was not supposed to be smart enough to put forward policies that would grow the economy. However, the white man was supposed to know all of the right policies to put forward to make the economy grow.
In addition, the Fed actually raised interest rates during President Obama's time in office. When the Feds raised interest rates during President Obama's time in office the economy continued to grow. Maybe what is really causes problems for the stock market is Donald Trump doing and saying crazy things on a daily basis.

(9,350 posts)He just allowed Rick Santorum to lie without being questioned. I may be wrong, but I am unaware of a time when the fed lowered interest rates during the Obama Administration. Maybe they lowered interest rates at the beginning of the term in order to help the economy after the Great Recession, but I am unaware of the fed lowering interest rates throughout the Obama term. Quantitative Easing was ended during President Obama time in Office. The Fed announced in 2013 that it would slow asset purchases beginning in early 2014. By the end of 2014 they had ended the program. So, President Obama's last two years in office were without Quantitative Easing.
