Caught my Fox News watching dad tuning in to CNN over the Christmas holiday.

I was pretty shocked to see my dad watching CNN. He has always been a hardcore Fox News republican, but I walked into my brother's living room and he was actually watching CNN! I considered it a victory. Even though he still watches Fox, the fact that he would even tune in to CNN is pretty incredible and shows that people can change.

Also, most of the family I visited on X-mas are pretty republican and I did not hear a word from them. Kind of interesting. They were not as cocky as they had been in years past. Just thought I would share that.

An exclusive diet of Fox is bound to leave some yawning gaps in your knowledge of doings in the political world. Your dad may have been caught off guard too many times and wants to be sure he's not missing quite so much going forward.

It sounds as if you were treated very rudely. I doubt you posted offensive things on FB. I don’t believe your views are terrible. And we know trump is not a decent man and Obama is not horrible, you are standing on firm ground. They wrecked the dinner, not you and I’m sorry you had to endure it. But you’re also right in deciding on no more abusive holiday gatherings. I hope you can dry your tears and find something positive to salvage the holiday.

I told my friend's husband that he was unhinged earlier this year at a high-school graduation, when he was going on about what a local conservative site said was going to happen in our local primaries. It didn't happen, and he's been very subdued since.

You're better off without those people, and they will know within the year that you were right all along.

what a disgraceful shitshow for those people to throw

they don't sound "christian" to me--maybe they like to think they are (people like that usually do like to think that) but it's rather apparent they are simply a bunch of hypocritical assholes.

you said niece & nephew and i'm wondering where their parents were in all of this (your brother or sister i'm assuming) and why in the hell did they allow their brats to escalate this bullshit with you.

she allowed it to escalate. she was horrified that they acted like monsters said she was sorry but what is done is done.

they can't take back those horrible words they hurled at me. i will always remember the screaming.

my hubby told niece later how trump will go to jail and she was in total denial.

i just can't type anymore. too raw.

thank you friends.

that not only the guy they've loudly, belligerently supported is a vile idiot and the others in the party know it and have supported him in full awareness of his shocking deceitfulness.

They are probably going wild with rage that you, out of all of them, saw him correctly from the first and haven't crumbled under their wrath.

The truth about him makes them all look like fools, unfortunately for them. Their fear got them behind him, and now they are afraid to admit how wrong they are.

You are a person of conscience. You are much stronger than they are. Don't let them beat you down. Good for you for not taking a dive to stay in their good graces.

Some of the young uns we suspect of going rogue. We have not discussed religion or politics in years. This Christmas every tv had children's programming on a loop.

Awesome about your dad. Maybe he is now comparing and contrasting the differences.

And as far as I could tell, he didn't have even a beer. A couple years ago, he walked out after getting into an alcohol fueled argument with my sister. No political talk at all, even from my very liberal brother who lights up FaceBook with anti-Trump posts.

… some of The Crooked Donald's crowd has quieted down. As far as Christmas viewing, I tuned on FOX' dumb news shows because CNN had a marathon of their "In Search of Jesus" shows, which I didn't like... and MSNBC had a marathon of "Dateline" shows, which I don't like although they are better than their "Naked Child Predator" marathon.

One thing I do with FOX fiends is tell them I watch it sometimes and everyone needs to watch a mix of news... so, they should watch Rachel Maddow or Lawrence O'Donnell occasionally. Often, Rachel uses facts to weave an idea together... it's similar to the Conservatives' "conspiracy theories" - but with facts. I think that pulls them in...

They have not been pulled so far in by Fox that they can't be pulled back out again. I think they realize that even they have been hoodwinked. They pride themselves on being knowledgeable, so they have to get other points of view regardless of their conservative bias.
