is the fact that that woman is Nancy Pelosi, the baddest of the baddasses who is on her second tour of duty as Speaker so she has no learning curve ...
She's hitting the ground running ...

Also, I would like to see somewhere, the disaster relief supplemental appropriation.

EffieBlack
(14,249 posts)Yep. But he's in for a rude awakening. Unlike Hillary, who was walking a fine, treacherous line trying to push back on him while trying to appeal to a majority of voters, Pelosi isn't running for anything or against anybody. Her only job is to represent, protect and advance the interests of her caucus and, in her spare time, smack Trump around.
He won't know what hit him.

(14,249 posts)First of all, Trump is about to face something he has NEVER dealt with in his life: powerful woman who is not afraid of him, has a significant measure of control and power over him, and is not competing with him for something. This is not going to be pleasant for him at all.
Second, the shutdown won't in any way "hijack Pelosi's big moment." Her return as Speaker is huge, no matter what else is going on and whether or not folks throw up a lot of bells and whistles around it. Moreover "big moment" is not her acenscion - it will last for the next two years.
Not only isn't this "right up his alley," it's not in his alley at all and, in fact, is an alley he's never even been in and has no idea how to navigate.

(20,018 posts)the woman who took any chance of impeachment for Dubya "off the table" is not remotely "the baddest of the baddasses".
What sort of wishful thinking binge are we on here?
EffieBlack
(14,249 posts)But let's be clear: Nancy Pelosi didn't "take impeachment off the table." The Democratic Caucus refused to put it on the table.
Pelosi did the counting, assessed where her caucus was, knew that there were not the votes for impeachment - not even close - and understood that, unless constituents across the country drastically changed their minds and started putting heavy pressure on their representatives to pursue impeachment instead of trying to achieve other legislative goals that would improve their lives, making impeachment a priority was not only a waste of time but would likely doom Democrats' chances in 2008. And then she told us the truth.
That's one of the things badasses do ...

(9,090 posts)stop ignoring talk radio
the recent shutdown/wall event got blamed on talk radio/limbaugh, finally, but if that fades away the trump base will continue to sound like 40 or 50% instead of 10% and 1500 putin/gop-coordinated radio stations.
