A detailed account of who was present at the dinner on that January 20 night and the plan they worked out to bring down Obama is provided by Robert Draper in 'Do Not Ask What Good We Do: Inside the US House of Representatives', published this week.

In his book, Draper opens with the heady atmosphere in Washington on the days running up to the inauguration and the day itself, which attracted 1.8 million to the mall to witness Obama being sworn in as America's first black president.

Those numbers contributed to a growing sense of unease among Republicans as much the defeat in the White House race the previous November. The 15 Republicans were in a sombre mood as they gathered at the Caucus Room in Washington, an upscale restaurant where a New York strip steak costs $51.

Attending the dinner were House members Eric Cantor, Jeb Hensarling, Pete Hoekstra, Dan Lungren, Kevin McCarthy, Paul Ryan and Pete Sessions. From the Senate were Tom Coburn, Bob Corker, Jim DeMint, John Ensign and Jon Kyl. Others present were former House Speaker and future – and failed – presidential candidate Newt Gingrich and the Republican strategist Frank Luntz, who organised the dinner and sent out the invitations.

I agree with previous posters... Obama just has to use this to show how republicans will only support republicans period and here he not only supports the stimulus but also tells of those in the opposition party braking ranks to support "bush's" stimulus plan.

Romney condemns Obama for reaching across party lines to use his (Romney's) plan for Healthcare reform and now we have Ryan condemning Obama for using the same strategies he (Ryan) supported when Bush was pResident. For the life of me I can't understand how people can consider voting republican anymore. What a pair of Hypocrites the have standing up for the self proclaimed "Family Values" party.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/08/19/paul-ryan-bush-stimulus_n_1803761.html?utm_hp_ref=mitt-romney
<snip>
When Congressman Paul Ryan has been asked the past few years about the value of stimulus to the sagging economy and the nation's jobless, the Wisconsin Republican has dismissed it as meaningless, and dubbed it "sugar-high economics."

But that's when President Obama is pushing for the spending. When it was President George W. Bush arguing for more stimulus to boost a slow economy in the early 2000s, Ryan's economic analysis was entirely different.

"What we're trying to accomplish today with the passage of this third stimulus package is to create jobs and help the unemployed," Ryan said, in comments unearthed by MSNBC's "Up with Chris Hayes" and provided to HuffPost. "What we're trying to accomplish is to pass the kinds of legislation that when they've passed in the past have grown the economy and gotten people back to work."

Video of the comments will be aired at 8:00 a.m. Sunday on MSNBC.

These hosts on MSNBC all have behind-the-scenes staffs that do the research and pore over the obscure but relevant stuff like voting records and speeches on the floor.

Maddow, O'Donnell, Chris Hayes et al get to present it on the air. I just want to give some credit to those who do the grunt work.
