I refuse to shop somewhere that rewards executives for bankrupting a business. Just asked to be taken off their email list.

(31,966 posts)The Sears near me had signs up advertising that they were hiring, up until about a month ago.
But, I agree with your assessment of their corporate structure. Disgusting.

(17,235 posts)than I am about the wall street criminals that destroyed the company. Sears could and should be another Amazon!

(2,037 posts)Once again the employees will get the shaft. I have a 98 year old aunt who depends on her pension from Sears to make ends meet. Not sure what will become of her pension when all of this washes out.
And yes, Sears should have been what Amazon became. Everything was in place. Catalog ordering, warehouse distribution, etc. I often thought that Bezos would purchase Sears and expand Amazon into the store front market. Oh, well...

(26,366 posts)a giant catalog from which you could order most anything and have it shipped to you lost out to a company that revolutionized buying by having a giant (online) catalog from which you could order most anything and have it shipped to you.
BTW: Speaking of Sears' "iconic brand" they already sold the Craftsman name to Stanley tools.

(26,259 posts)Maybe there's a lag time but damn. I've been sending requests to Sears Home Service, to unsubscribe from their emails, for months and they are still coming, too.

(10,901 posts)The last time I was in one (March 2017), I bought some clothes, and the lady at the cash register asked me for my phone number, which I gave to her, then she says it's not in here (in the computer). Then she asks for my email address. I balked at that.
She said I would get discounts today for (joining or whatever, I don't recall) and I shook my head. She tried again, saying it will take longer to back out of the Rewards Program than to continue. She made that point a couple of times. As I kept saying no, she said are you sure you don't want a 30% discount ... that's $13 (in an incredulous tone of voice like I must be some kind of idiot to turn down $13). I said no. She said something about how its taking her a long time to back out of the Rewards Program. But finally the purchase was completed and I was on my way and out the door, forever.
Anyway, I don't like to be badgered and treated like I'm some kind of idiot if I don't give out my email. Good riddance, Sears.

(5,268 posts)I have kept shopping there, using their incredible amount of points and free giveaway offers and free online shipping to the stores, as at least it helped my local friends to keep their jobs until the inevitable closings.
Our local Sears though was closed last year even though in was in top 5 of the entire US in sales volume. Just because commercial real estate is so high here and they sold the Sears property to Eddie Lamperts development company to tear it down and build movie theater complex with new stores and apartments.
I did unsubscribe to Sears emails and closed my credit card but kept the Kmart emails for now until they close.

(16,376 posts)They had good prices and incentives, but they could never get it delivered to me--twice! They would promise me they had it in stock but when the deliver people called it was always up to three weeks off--TWICE. Both times I got my money back and ended up buying from Lowes.
