Should the Dems make any deal for Wall $$

On another thread some one suggested Mueller protection, DACA and the NY/NJ Tunnel. For something like $1.5 billion for the Wall.

I think that is a good deal, but I also would hate to give anything he can call a win.

Thoughts?

If you let Trump have his wall, it will fire up his base. Firing up his base must be avoided at all costs.

The shutdown can be ended without Trump. The Democrats take over the House in less than one week. The House can pass an identical bill to the one that unanimously passed the Senate by voice vote two weeks ago that re-opens the government, but does not provide money for the wall. If Senate Republicans don't pass that bill, they own the shutdown, no questions asked. If Trump vetoes the bill, Trump basically cements in his ownership of the shutdown.

IMO, as things stand now, the only way to re-open the government is to impeach Trump.

$25 billion the wall and DACA. He may call it a win, but it will be viewed as a loss by all but the most hardcore. Doubt he'd make a deal like that one-sided though. He might do some other kind of deal that both sides can call a win.

until the SCOTUS declares DACA dead. Then, he knows he has maximum leverage. It would not surprise me if he left the government shutdown to deal with until then.

As some pointed out the last couple of days, any money for the wall is wasteful. Trump was given 1.3 billion for border security in the bill sent up with Senate support until the talking heads torpedoed it. He had also received a pretty substantial amount for repairs and new tech for border security in 2017 and Democratic Senators have pointed out the he has only used about 6% of the money appropriated since that legislation was signed. He had something like 25 billion for border security and he has only used less than 2 for anything and he is harping on the need for a Wall? It is BS. The only thing about the Wall is that it is a symbol for all of the MAGA racists. There is no utility to a stupid wall. The House can make clean bills for DACA protections and to protect Mueller and have the Senate and Trump go against them. There is no need to horse trade. Just keep the message clear and straight that a Wall is useless for border security, it is a vanity project, a waste, and the government shut down is Trump's tantrum.

This is utterly fucking ridiculous. He is holding the government hostage. What the hell will stop Republicans from constantly doing this?

Why are so many on our side willing to give in to bullies and threats?

People just fucking voted! And they put Democrats in charge of the House, by big margins, to stop this kind of bullshit.

Giving in to Trump's terrorism just throws all that out.

It disgusts me that anyone would suggest this.

No way, no deal to waste taxpayers money on this ridiculous wall to gratify Trump and his base.

It’s a waste of money and doesn’t provide any security benefit....

I'd suggest Mueller protection, DACA and fix ACA, helps more Americans in more places than NY. It would keep health care coverage for almost all Americans. If drumpf and repugs deny this, they will pay a really high price because lack of healthcare affects so many in such important ways. Dems will have been shown to care about the country and its people and drumpf and repugs shown to only care about a stupid ineffective wall. Dems win, Repugs buckle in the face of overwhelming anger from their own base.

along the Eastern Seaboard for both Amtrak and Freight. The one tunnel under the Hudson is 100 years old and could collapse. The result would be chaos.

A new tunnel was approved 10 years ago, and then Chris Christie killed it to show he was against Government spending. (Yes he is a corrupt mother fucker) When Trump got into office he said he would deny any funding.

This is a vital infrastructure project for the entire east coast.
