Trump threatens to shut down southern border as government funding stalemate drags on

With the partial government shutdown headed toward its second week and no resolution in sight, President Trump on Friday issued a string of tweets in which he once again vowed to close the entire U.S. border with Mexico and halt aid to several Latin American countries unless Democrats agree to his demand for billions of dollars in wall funding.

Trump is also canceling plans to visit his Florida resort, Mar-a-Lago, and will remain in Washington over the New Year holiday, Office of Management and Budget Director Mick Mulvaney said.

About 25 percent of the federal government has been shut down since Saturday, with roughly 800,000 workers affected, including an estimated 350,000 who are on furlough at home.

“We will be forced to close the Southern Border entirely if the Obstructionist Democrats do not give us the money to finish the Wall & also change the ridiculous immigration laws that our Country is saddled with,” Trump said in a morning tweet.

In a reprise of his threat before the midterm elections to cut off aid to Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador as a caravan of migrants was making its way toward the United States, Trump said that those three countries “are doing nothing for the United States but taking our money.”

What about all the produce that gets trucked in from Mexico?
What about the Americans heading to Mexico for cheap drugs and dental work?
What about all the stuff Mexico buys from us?
What about air traffic?

The economic impact would be catastrophic.

This is such a stupid idea, so mean and vile, that it is almost certain Trump will actually do it.

Or maybe eat worms or something. Maybe he’s even eyeing his nose to cut it off. Or something...

the economy into the dumpster. Which I'm beginning to think is the plan, not a bug. How perfect when a Russian asset is working from the inside to undermine the country.

That being said, the investigations into collusion, obstruction of justice and all matter of subversion will roar into being come January 3rd.

We need to have faith and stay strong.

...guess you can kiss your guacamole for Super Bowl goodbye.

Funny thing about international trade, you don't what you got until its gone.

Of course it will be Pelosi's fault when you can't get the good green stuff. But ironically, pretty good chance that California will still have it.

He's not just going to hurt California, he's going to seriously impact Arizona and Texas with his temper tantrums. That will cost the US economy Billions per day - and you want to see yet another stock market crash?

BTW, doesn't he have to declare a National state of Emergency to just shut down an entire international border? I don't think that's something he can do by fiat without cause - without consultation of Congress or the Senate.
As it is, violent crime and immigrant crime in San Diego is at it's lowest level in decades; it's considered one of the safest large cities in the U.S., because of the way the police enforcement has been evolving into a community based model where the immigrant community has input and access to policing, not because of any sort of "no tolerance/broken windows/racial biasing" policing.
It's the drunken or substance abusing Citizens and White Collar criminals that are causing most of our policing problems, not the Border.
We have more problems per capita with off-duty Military, Police and Border Patrol Agents than we do with immigrants.

A boo-boo to his "snap opinions" or personal pride are not sufficient to be considered a National Emergency - only Facts are.
