"4 Million Children Participated In School Lockdowns Last Year, Many Were Traumatized"

NPR's Ari Shapiro speaks with Steven Rich, database editor for the Washington Post's investigations unit, about how 4 million children were subjected to school lockdowns last year.

A transcript appears at this link:

Think about the headline, which really is the point of this post. FOUR MILLION CHILDREN were placed on lockdown.

This image shows what they fear and what all American's SHOULD fear.

How can ANYONE not be moved by this. These are BABIES who innocently went to school in Sandy Hook, CT, just before Christmas.. They survived. Other BABIES were KILLED.

By a FUCKING GUN.

And today, years later, it has only gotten worse. Scores more children are DEAD. Just this year, FOUR MILLION CHILDREN were placed on lockdown. LOCKDOWN. ACTIVE SHOOTER DRILLS.

For WHAT????

So GUN OWNERS can have their fucking guns.

This is so elemental. Children. Innocence long gone. Inner city kids. Suburban kids. All races. All socioeconomic levels. TRAUMATIZED.

So gun owners can have their fetish fulfilled.

It is disgusting.

RICH: I mean, it's terrifying for a lot of these kids. We had talked to kids who wrote wills. We talk to kids who soiled themselves, who don't feel safe in their classrooms anymore. There's this deep trauma that is going to affect them moving forward that we just are not combating right now.

that if the perpetrator was a fellow student (as often is the case) that he would know what his classmates had been told to evade the shooter and could follow them there ...

Simple gun ownership makes ending their scourge even more difficult.

if some asshole somewhere doesn't see fit to warn the kids that a drill is happening. a classmate of my granddaughter wet himself during one of these. A 5th grader so you can imagine the humiliation for that child.

i hope the NRA bellies up and goes away. without that money, politicians will have no reason not to pass common sense gun laws.

Once was enough. New laws passed. Open carry is still okay but it's the wannabes that do that and they're rarely seen in public. The last one we saw, I asked if he was going to shoot the radishes or buy them.....

I own one gun. A shotgun. It's mostly to scare moose out of the garden, otherwise isn't used, and is loaded with non-lethal shot.

I can understand that position even if I disagree.

But these lockdown trainings do and will save lives.

For some reason, some Americans have decided that killing children in schools is reasonable. And they won't stop. Even if we rid ourselves of guns, they'll do it with knives and machetes. These lockdown training exercises will save lives in those situations too.

Please do not try to equate a machete to an AR-15. That is ludicrous.
