Dear Donald:
Try to get this. Try to grasp the words. Try what you're not used to. Try thinking.
Yeah, I know that thinking is hard for you, so I'll use small words.
Most people are onto you. Most voters are onto you. The world is onto you.
It's difficult to look at yourself and figure out who/what you are. So let me try to explain yourself to you.
You love only yourself. You want to be admired and loved by all. You want to win regardless of any stupid game you're playing.
You want your name on anything/everything of value that is built anywhere in the world. Actually, you "need" it more than you want it. It's who and what you are.
You want to be worshiped by every human being on the planet.
Well, Donald, I love breaking bad news to you. The fact is that you are despised by most people on planet Earth. And the reason for that is that you are a prick of the first order. You have no sympathy, empathy, or even a faint wisp of caring about anyone other than yourself.
The reality that children have died on the border is a crime against humanity that will stick to you forever. The fact that you have encouraged American fascism and homegrown Nazis is a stench that will stick to you forever. The fact that you are, perhaps, the worst human being who has ever occupied the White House is a disgrace that can never be eradicated and that will cling to you forever.
I have no idea whether or not you are insane. And I don't give a shit if you are or aren't. All I, and most people on Earth want to see, is you gone from power.
Allow me to make this as clear as possible. You are one major dick and a horrible human being. You've written your own history. And it's really fucking ugly. My wish is that you live long enough to see all of humanity view you as a dim-witted, mean-spirited, horrendous, grotesque villain.
Game over - as we used to say in the old pinball days - tilt!

(2,685 posts)I loved this story the other day that shows our common humanity and connection. This gives me hope.

It just makes Rush credible when he tells his audience that Liberals HATE them.
I'm in a conservative town. I know many who voted for Trump who are otherwise good and loving people who do a lot of good. Some of them meet weekly for breakfast, and call their group the Deplorables. They embraced the label. I know some in that group. Good, generous people, salt-of-the-earth types, but retired veterans and conservative politically. Friendly, funny, helpful.
We'd be wise to stop broad brush judgment, assuming they are worthless, and probably should stop mentioning the racism that is obvious to us in many of their actions and statements. Just inflames them and makes them rejoice in doing whatever possible to thwart liberals. Really, if I were at the receiving end of that snobbery, I might feel and do likewise. In fact, I confess to some resentment on their behalf, because I like them. We've volunteered on some projects together, they support my nonprofit work even though they know I'm a staunch liberal.

(1,105 posts)I'm in the same sort of situation as you describe and have come to the same conclusions.
I'm going to start my new year off as the rural/ag representative from my county's Democratic party to the state rural/ag caucus.I'm going to be talking with a number of organizations that are profoundly conservative in membership. I'm going to ask them what measures they'd like to see taken to help with the issues faced by rural America and the natural resource/agriculture industries.
Should be quite the ride, but it would be something to help, in some small way, the Democratic party do a better job understanding and assisting rural WA state.
Really appreciate your posting what is true about so many of our friends and neighbors.

(2,685 posts)for different levels of support?
To me, there's a vast gap between the person who decided to take a chance that things might be better for them under Trump and the person who voted for him because they're a white supremacist.
There are those who support him because their media leads them to believe he is doing good things for the country, and frames coverage so they think that the bad things are just a frenzy by liberals who can't stand him and want to tear him down. The propaganda is sophisticated and it works. To me the fault lies with the manipulators more than the manipulated.
Brawndo
(535 posts)I tend to blame those who enable more than those who commit an act.
Why would any sane responsible person look at tRump's behavior on the campaign trail and see leadership potential there?
He literally called for the targeted assassination of innocent women and children overseas as a US policy, "You have to take out their families." He supported for high office, a credibly accused child molester in Roy Moore, and of course there's the Access Hollywood tape.
This goes beyond political ideological differences, this has entered the arena of good vs evil. I harshly judge any person who would support things getting worse for people unlike themselves so long as it might get better for them. Those people can be accurately described as garbage. I say this with tRump supporters in my own immediate family. Also, if they are that easily manipulated then they should abstain from participation in our liberal democracy, as its health depends upon an informed electorate.

(32,489 posts)Where do they draw the line? Children are ripped from parents and locked in cages. At least 2 are dead.
Brawndo
(535 posts)They draw the line at compassion/empathy, those are mortal sins to them. I grow weary of appeals to reach out and understand tRump supporters or to appeal to a shared humanity. I think they've willingly abdicated their humanity. If someone spends decades not being violent and then spends two minutes murdering people are they known for those two minutes or for decades of not being violent? The otherwise good people argument is hollow.

(15,023 posts)Is that really what you meant to say?
Are you actually asking us to ignore their racism?
Please tell me that I'm misreading your statement.
Could you please reply to this. Are you really asking us to ignore racism???
That's some bullshit, to ignore the racism.
summer_in_TX
(2,685 posts)Evil should never be ignored or excused.
Human behavior is a complicated subject however, and my earlier statement really was about those who are not overt racists, who treat all people regardless of color decently in person, but may unconsciously hold stereotypes that rightwing media successfully exploit.
My point really is that going at that sort of unconscious bias by constantly pointing it out doesn't get us anywhere positive. In fact, it may increase the trait we would like to have go away. Like most of us when our faults are pointed out to us, our first and strongest reaction is to strongly reject the accusation as untrue, our second is self-justification. That defensive posture makes a direct approach more than just a waste of time; it's counter-productive.
Then the idea that they are being looked down on and considered to be stupid, ignorant, racist trash widens the gulf in society. The folks I know are educated, traveled widely, volunteer in the community, are funny, kind, are generous, and many served their country.
They consider the attitude of many liberals to be elitist, disrespectful, and bigoted, and that leads them a hardened attitude toward all things associated with liberals. So it's easy for Rush and others to exploit that, widening the divide.
harumph
(1,871 posts)accordingly, your repub neighbors don't feel threatened by your beliefs - b/c it costs them nothing.
Basically, your liberalism is simply an eccentricity to them. If you weren't white and still
held the same beliefs - you (likely) would not be getting the acceptance. If I lived where you
did, I'd probably do the same - just get along. You're not going to change anyone's mind.
summer_in_TX
(2,685 posts)Yes, I'm white.
But I'm not passively going along to get along. And I don't hide my opinions, but I'm actively working to establish relationships that are broad and deep and mutually respectful. Then when we discuss issues, we are able to be more open to one another because of that mutual regard, and often we can find areas where we hadn't thought of something a particular way but find one another's perspective makes a lot of sense.
That used to be the way Americans dealt with their neighbors differing perspectives. We lost that in the partisan divide, but to me it's important to try to restore that.
We've been in this community 33 years. I am sure that I have impacted the thinking of some I know, as they have mine. I used to think that if someone was loving and generous, then of course they were liberals and democrats. It was eye-opening to find I was wrong. I have not changed my liberal beliefs, but I have changed my opinion about those who don't share them.

(2,064 posts)These people are victims of a long and determined propaganda campaign.
Some of them are mean racist SOBs who will never change but most of them are decent, hard working people who dont have good information.
They can be reached. Writing them off is unwise.
We need everyone, first to save democracy and then to save the planet. Humanity has made one hell of a mess burning fossil fuels and we need to start on fixing that as soon as we get these climate liars out of power.

(10,252 posts)Donnie boy, you are an ignorant self-cherishing asshole. Deeply insecure, cowardly, degenerate, and vulgar. Decent people will never invite you to their soirees and social functions. You have proven over and over again that you have nothing positive to offer anyone. No amount of money will ever buy you class and respectability. The only people, who you will be able to attract are sycophantic, incompetent grifters like yourself.
You could easily change this dreadful outcome by giving a shit about other people and by working for the benefit of others. But you won't, because you are so deeply mired in your own loathsome self-cherishing, envy, and daydreams of vengence against those, who outshine you, which basically is everyone. I feel sorry for you. Truly I do.

(15,023 posts)Every one of them, without exception, were fucked up people whom others tried to avoid.
I really don't know what goes on in their heads. Are they viewing themselves from outside and seeing something magnificent? Are they standing on some kind of pedestal that only they themselves can see?
Almost everyone of us has run into one or more people who speak this way. Please, recognize it and steer clear of it. Such people are, to one degree or another, fucked up and potentially violent/dangerous/nuts.
I'm not a shrink, so take that last sentence with a grain of salt. I'm speaking only from my personal experiences. But the first time anyone refers to themselves in the third person is the last time I have anything to do with them.

He's one smart guy who, I believe, would never refer to himself, as Lee Papa.
I wish the NY Times or the Washington Post would make him a regular op-ed contributor. But, for one reason or another, I know that ain't gonna' happen.

(9,593 posts)I think you nailed it in the second paragraph.
Ive known a few people such as that also, weird...all of them. Some fluttered back and forth from 1st to 3rd in conversation, but I believe they led their lives succumbed to the 3rd.
I think they view the 1st person of themselves as flawed in some way. The 3rd is as you said magnificent, above all others, stable genius, so much more acceptable to them.

(14,483 posts)A far more common practice, I think. Even for sole proprietors, it's an easy scapegoat to pass blame on your own company even when in reality, it's that person that's responsible.
Many also invoke their company's name to justify all sorts of immoral behavior, as if the company is some sort of higher power authorized to do evil.

(11,694 posts)You are right that narcissists do not typically accept information and that they do their best to rationalize or do anything else to push ego dystonic information away. However, he is affected by it. If he were not, he would not need to react to every apparent or perceived slight.
He will suffer, if only in thinking that the "fake media" is out to get him. If he survives his term in office and escapes jail, he will likely still have a very difficult life with all of the criticism and scrutiny that will continue afterwards. I foresee him bunkered down and refusing to go out in public after he leaves office ranting away on Twitter trying to defend his disgusting legacy.

They seemed to have a dual personality for the good person and the second person. One was good and they used I.....when in the third person was used, you were talking to the criminal. They separated the two to protect them selves from believing that they were a bad person.
