During the Cold War, kids ducked and covered under their desks because of the fear of nuclear war

It's funny though because kids are ducking and covering today, not from the Mexican or the Muslim, but from people who look just like other Americans... because they are other Americans.

But point this out and you are a "SOCIALIST".

Weird.

I'm a geezer so I remember vividly doing this drill and also plastering my self against the wall also...... as if that would help against megatons...
I just finished a book about an Irish girls experience of moving to America in the '50s. In her book "Fitted Pieces" she talks about how absurd it was to her and how many things did not make sense. I totally agree!!

The whole right-wing nonsense, the drive to build the wall, the restriction on immigration, etc. is almost explicitly about the necessity to duck and cover from the Mexican, Muslim, anyone who looks different . . .

are doing lockdown drills now, which include schoolchildren hiding under their desks, because someone can come anytime with a gun, enter the building, and start shooting people. Most of those people look just like ordinary Americans. They can be young, old, or in-between, but most school shooters are ordinary looking white males.

In the Cold War days, we were made to duck under our desks, futilely, because the "Russians" might drop nuclear weapons on us. As a kid, I went through those drills many many times, ridiculous as they were. That turned out not to actually be a real risk. School shooters, who come from all-American stock ARE real risks, and the threat is also real.

Isn't that sad? That's what the poster is saying.

I suspect I'm not the only one confused by the OP, given the dearth of responses.

I read it earlier, decided it made no sense. When I saw a response I thought perhaps that might explain it - but it didn't.

Your explanation makes sense - and is probably right, but that's a lot of dot-connecting required from the OP given the current expressly racial/ethnic hate-mongering going on.

I try to give people the benefit of the doubt and try to figure out what they mean. I'm pretty sure I'm right about that post.
