GOP rep in 1995: "the juices don't flow, the body functions don't work"

Lawmaker Says Rape Can't Cause Pregnancy
Associated Press
Published 4:00 a.m., Friday, April 21, 1995

1995-04-21 04:00:00 PDT Raleigh, N.C. -- Women do not get pregnant when raped because "the juices don't flow, the body functions don't work" during an attack, a state lawmaker said yesterday.

Republican Representative Henry Aldridge made the remarks to the House Appropriations Committee as it debated a proposal to eliminate a state abortion fund for poor women.

"The facts show that people who are raped -- who are truly raped -- the juices don't flow, the body functions don't work and they don't get pregnant," said Aldridge, a 71-year-old periodontist. "Medical authorities agree that this is a rarity, if ever."

Aldridge's comments outraged women's advocates and some legislators from both parties.

thus if the woman gets pregnant - they didn't commit rape, because according to their non-medical and non scientifically based belief... impregnating = freedom from guilt of rape.

Of course it isn't really escaping blame, it is heaping blame on women victims. Ala "it clearly wasn't rape, because some good old boy said that if the 'juices aren't flowing' then pregnancy can't occur - so clearly you wanted it and it wasn't rape!" and "stop blaming our boy".

It (the rationale for blaming the rape victim who gets pregnant) was gross back then, and it is still gross today.

Henry Aldridge. He could have had a stigma due to his famous name. LOL! Way way before my time, but my dad used to watch cinema episodes of Henry Aldridge as a kid.

Not the same Henry.

This is the most backwards, ignorant statement I've ever seen.

Who are these people?

Were they homeschooled with no sex ed?

Were they kept in sheds as children?

Gahhhh!!!

For Senate candidate Todd Akin, home schooling is a personal issue

Yup... There are six of them

The Akin children spent mornings working on scripted lessons tailored to home-school families.

In the afternoon, the Akin children — four boys and two girls — were free to follow their own pursuits, from metal work to playing the accordion, at the sprawling Town and Country homestead where the children grew up. A robust network of home-school parents around St. Louis made sure they interacted with other children their same age.

And it goes on and on and on

Before Akin went to Congress, he and Lulli generated extra income by offering testing services to other home-school parents. Two of Akin's sons are married to fellow home-school graduates who either worked on Akin's campaign or in his congressional office. One of those sons, Perry, now home-schools his children.

While educating his children, Todd Akin also nurtured his political ambitions, earning the adoration of a small but fervent constituency of home-school families.

All those body functions do shut down, according to prominent Republicans.

Therefore, if any woman tells you she has been raped, you must laugh in her face, then walk away.

Good women die of fright when raped.
