Hey they just passed the religious conscience law. You don't have to do or learn anything that violates your religious beliefs.

(34,179 posts)Missouri is always a toss up. Statewide elections are generally a replay of the Civil War here, pitting the people south of the Missouri River against those who are north of it. Akin's comments probably just cost him a lot of votes across the state, even in southern Missouri, and I'm sure this isn't the last of his fuckups. There's a reason that McCaskill basically double dog dared Republicans to elect him during the primary season, that's because she knew he would make many mistakes, bad ones. Already across the state there are conservatives who are wanting the Republican party to pull Akin out of the race, which would work to McCaskill's advantage as well.
As far as Amendment 2 goes, well, it's already headed to the courts, and will hopefully be struck down there. What Amendment 2 showed wasn't how dumb and conservative this state is, but how well the idiots can manipulate the system. There was a reason why they wanted the Amendment put on the ballot in August rather than November, namely that the primary was pretty much a Republican dominated affair, and thus an overwhelming majority of 'Pugs would go to the polls. This probably wouldn't have passed if offered on the November ballot. It was also kept very much under the radar until the last couple of weeks of the election. Little press coverage, and actually there were no ads, either for or against it, were aired.

(14,180 posts)Missouri women will still vote for Akin come November? If they do, then the state is further gone than I thought.
