This is the year of the vagina. Not everyone is actually saying “vagina,” but they sure are talking about it. A lot.
Mitt Romney has promised to defund Planned Parenthood if he gets elected. Vagina.
Rush Limbaugh called a law student a slut when she testified in Congress about the cost and health impacts of contraception. Vagina.
Several states have legislation to force women to have transvaginal ultrasounds if they want an abortion. Vagina.
At least they were actually using the word “vagina”. Maybe putting “trans” in front of it makes it sound like an action movie. Although, vaginas that can turn into cars or robots would be pretty cool. I may have to write that script.
It is clear to me now that prior to this year of the Vagina, I got lazy. Women’s rights were debated, fought over and settled before I was born. Sure, women still earn 77 percent of what men earn but I figured we’d get there. At least the big tickets items were covered, like voting and reproductive rights.
The women’s health stuff in our media was nasty but I thought these guys were blowing their whistles to get attention.
But now comes my biggest holy shit moment of the year.....
