TODD AKIN DOUBLES DOWN: IF SHE GETS PREGNANT, IT WASN'T REALLY RAPE--I'M ON THE SAME PAGE AS PAUL RYAN AND THE OTHER REPUBLICAN SPONSORS OF HR 3
Kaili Joy Gray:
Todd Akin clarifies: he's on the same page as Paul Ryan on 'forcible rape': As [Akin] explained on Mike Huckabee's radio show:
I was talking about forcible rape. I used the wrong word.
Ohhhh. Well, obviously talking about "legitimate rape" is totally out of line. But talking about "forcible rape"? That just makes everything better, doesn't it? It also puts him in line with Paul Ryan:
Paul Ryan also co-sponsored HR 3, the "No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion" bill in which Republicans tried to redefine rape so that it only applied to "forcible" rape .
Now Akin has explained that he holds the same position as Romney's running mate: that there is a distinction between "forcible rape" and not-really-rape. So, Mitt, are you still offended? Do you still disagree? Still hold an "entirely different view"?

And it makes no difference... they're for NO EXCEPTIONS on Abortion Bans *except* the Mother's Health (i.e. tubal pregnancy). Regardless of what kind of rape it is, Akin/Ryan are against a woman having an abortion for *any* kind of rape.

(3,310 posts)as they try to "clarify" and damage control this one. The GOP PTB are spilling their martinis and groping for their smelling salts in complete panic.
Freaking awesome.
If stupid were toxic waste, they'd have to designate Missouri a superfund site after Akin's spew. Lyan must be grinning from ear to ear to have "validation".
If that's what it takes to shake people from their torpor, I say let the moran spew on. May this albatross rot round their necks. They created this monster. They can pin it on and wear it home.

(14,337 posts)Yes, it used to the VICTIM had to prove rape by "fighting back" and showing physical signs of a beating. SHE was the one on trail. The woman had to prove that she wasn't "asking for it". I think this is what this moron thinks we should go back to as "legitimate" rape.
Only extremely young girls under the age of 10 were immune to "illegitimate" rape back in those days.

(31,849 posts)It is trial lore that in a 1960s rape trial, a defense attorney gave the victim a broom and he held a milk jug. The defense attorney, over the loud objections of the prosecutor, instructed the victim to give her best effort at putting the broom into the mouth of the milk jug. Apparently, he had used this trick before and was able to argue that because the victim (in his first use of the trick) had been unable to did it, she must have "wanted it."
However, in the subsequent trial, the victim was a fire cracker. After a couple unsuccessful attempts, she whopped the defense attorney between the legs and then told him, "Now ... move that damn jug again!"
