Question about a gripe I found on FB

In a thread asking "are you better off?" one respondent stated that Obama tried to cut his military paycheck--which he pointed out is used to support his family--by half. He didn't provide any background, of course, and I wasn't sure what he was referring to.

As a cube-rat with limited net access during the day, I can't research this on my own. Can anyone point me to what this person was describing?

Thanks awfully!

that Obama makes people in the military, for the first time in history, pay for their own uniforms. He insisted that he heard it on the tv.

the military has a clothing allowance that people use to buy uniforms, but the uniforms issued during basic are taken out of their pay checks... been this way though, for like since at least WWII...

He "believes" that Obama personally removed the allowance and it is now all out of pocket.

He has always postured as a Vietnam vet - pictures on the wall/bumper stickers/Rolling Thunder stuff, etc. For that reason I have avoided any discussion of politics over the past 20 years. His son was in the area and was listening to our conversation. He finally came over and laughed and said - Dad stop pretending you are a vet - she is old enough and has or will figure you out.

Turns out he could not serve because of serious injuries from a motorcycle accident.

Well, good... now you know. What was the reaction to the fact that he was outed by his son?

I just decided to leave as they argued, obviously something they do often. The son very anti-war, the Dad right wing. One of the things I heard the son say to him - "Just because you owned a biker bar it still doesn't make you a POW or ex-military."

the announced Pentagon cuts to 'raises'

Big cuts coming; lower pay raises start in 2015

Service members can expect standard pay raises for the next two years — most likely 1.7 percent for 2013 — but that will change starting in 2015, according to a new budget plan unveiled at the Pentagon on Thursday.

Defense Secretary Leon Panetta released details of the 2013 budget, the first since Congress ordered the Pentagon to slash more than $450 billion in planned spending over the next decade, with a few glimpses of what may be in store beyond 2013.
