Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill (Mo.) on Monday blasted her challenger, Rep. Todd Akin (R-Mo.), for his controversial comments on rape and abortion, and sought to tie him to the GOP presidential ticket.
"This statement is kind of a window into Todd Akins mind, said McCaskill on MSNBCs Morning Joe, describing the six-term lawmaker as one of the architects of the Ryan budget and all of its problems that that represents.
McCaskill called Akins remarks in an interview where he claimed that incidents of legitimate rape rarely cause pregnancy jaw-dropping and stunning.
You know, I spent 10 years as a prosecutor in the courtroom and did hundreds and hundreds of rape cases, held their hands, cried with them, and thats why for me this is incredibly painful because it shows how many people are out there in very important positions who just dont understand the trauma and dont understand what it means, she added.
