We're always hearing Republicans say that "doctors tell me" that women who are "legitimately" raped can't get pregnant, and that people are not born gay but choose that "lifestyle" and can renounce it if they choose. And don't forget Terry Schiavo. Republicans cited doctors who had never been in the same room with her but were certain that she could enjoy a full recovery, enabling her to get up and cook a hot breakfast for her husband any day now.
