He is of the mistaken belief that the decision of whether to quit is his own.

It's really out of his hands, and after a few hours to sleep on it, I'm sure he'll be writing his resignation speech by the morning.

The repubs are basically like the mafia, and they have no problems with "taking care of their own" when necessary. The quicker they get him to exit the picture, the better.
