This may sound odd, but I've been mulling over for a long time exactly what he difference is between "liberals and conservatives" "left vs right", or a bunch of other dichotomies that get thrown around. Usually the definitions are pretty fuzzy when it comes down to it, and most of the time its assumed that you "just know", so nothing needs to be explained...anyway, what I figure it boils down to is how we think about people.
I tend to think that people are basically decent and honest, most people want to be a part of society, want to work or be valued in some role; and most people deserve more than they get in life.
On the other side, they think that most people are lazy and dishonest, that they would rather not work and don't care what anyone thinks of that, and they get or take much more than they deserve. Of course, this is a view held primarily by white males, and applies most strongly to anyone who is not a white male women definitely included.
The consensus among the self-identified republican males I know is that all women over the age of 35 are just plain nuts - and I've heard this stated as a proven fact several times. Special hatred is reserved for every woman in politics, any woman who gets a college degree, and any woman who takes a position of authority.
Sometimes I wish I didn't know the people that I know, or that I could just move away somewhere where I could actually have conversations with people without feeling like I needed to wash my brain afterwards...
