Before President Donald Trump finished speaking from the Rose Garden, putting a temporary end to the five-week government shutdown, a running group text between several of his former aides lit up with complaints.
[Speaker Nancy] Pelosi ordered everything off the menu and left Trump hanging with the bill, one Trump ally texted to the group.

President Nancy Pelosi, she runs the country now, said a former White House official. We went from indefinite shutdown, to down payment, to cave all within a span of 24 hours.
That official said that Trumps core supporters and former aides are furious and melting down.
Bewildered by his decision to accept a deal without funding for a wall on the southern border not even the down payment the White House had requested a day earlier some of his most loyal supporters fretted that Trump was in danger of losing his fervent base that has fueled his presidency. It didnt help that special counsel Robert Mueller had just released more details about the Trump campaigns alleged attempts to backchannel with WikiLeaks during the election.
It all left Trump staring at a tough road ahead. Having staked his nascent 2020 reelection messaging to the wall fight, Trump now cant claim victory as Democrats start entering the field. After stumbling in his first bout with Pelosi, Trump must now face an invigorated Democratic-led House keen to investigate the White House. And following Mueller's reveal of more evidence that Trumps 2016 team tried to furtively gather intel about hacked Democratic emails, Trump will have to fend off increasing calls for impeachment.

(4,066 posts)It should be abundantly clear by now Trump is a sociopath. Given that truth, it is impossible to believe he will ever resign. That would be to admit defeat and replace Nixon. He does not have the mental capacity to accept the fact he makes mistakes and is ever wrong about anything.
If he were impeached, removed, tried in a court of law, convicted of treason and was being led to the gallows he'd still believe that was ONLY everyone was out to get him. That it was everyone out to get him that put his neck in noose and not his own illegal, immoral, unethical acts.
Also, you really should review what happens when a President resigns. Pelosi will never be President unless Pence and Trump are taken out at the exact same time.

(15,081 posts)but I don't think we need to act on it as yet.
Let's get the investigations in the House moving forward and allow Mueller to do his work.
I have a feeling many more indictments - with very familiar names on them (as John Brennan said) - will be coming out. Donnie Two Scoops will have a cow. I don't believe that he will serve out all of his term. He may resign for health reasons (real or imagined). But as long as we keep that "I" sitting on the table in front of him, we have the upper hand.
Thank you Madame Speaker for standing strong.

(21,783 posts)Yep, and if the shutdown continued, you can bet your ass the workers at Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson Airport would have followed suit, taking their cues from LaGuardia Airport.
And that would have adversely affected the Super Bowl. Coming and going.
He (Trump) doesnt care about federal workers. But pissing off travelers watch out.

I venture to guess that Uncle Vladdy Pooty Poot is popping a blood vessel about now. His plan is slowly, yet painfully unraveling before the world's eyes.
